USB transfer

Post by Perry »

Allow me to ask a truly newbie question since this is a site for the newbies. So far, I have not seen in the Operator's Manual any instructions on how to transfer data directly from my Fantom X6 to the USB drive without the additional step of running a USB cord from the keyboard to the computer. In other words, I'd like to just transfer from keyboard to USB. Is there a way to do that?

Not sure what you are trying to do.

The USB connection on the Fantom-X is to enable you to connect the FX to a computer.
This enables the FX to appear as a drive on your PC desktop.

You cannot do anything else with it.
You cannot connect a USB drive to the FX if that is what you are thinking. The FX does not have USB Host capability, so it cannot operate an external drive.

Or do you mean how do you access a card in the card slot? (just checking)

OK, I don't want to offend here.............do you know what USB is?

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. A bus is an interface whereby data can be moved utilizing a common standard. MFM, IDE, SCSI, FireWire, PCI..........these are all busses.

Beyond the bus, you can attach different devices to accomplish your needs.

So in the case of our beloved Fantom's you can attach connect with your computer and utilize either Midi functions, or storage functions. You appear to asking about data, so if you can elaborate, the folks around here can give you more specific guidance.

USB Transfer

Hi. I was a bit frustrated because the system didn't allow me to answer your email yesterday. But I was nto offended at all by your question. I do know, what a USB drive is, but there's a fine line between knowing what it is and what it is for so your information was helpful. A USB drive seems to be like a rolling bus. You can use it to transport info from oen place to another but not necessarily to house information. My term, "data" must have also confused you because I called, the musical sounds that I want to store, "data". Anyway, bottom line is that I cannot physical store musical sounds on the USB drive, detach the drive from my keyboard and then plug it into the computer and then input the music. It appears that I can do that with a memory card. Do you have any suggestions as to what's the best memory card for Fantom X6? I'm really excited about what I've been able to do with my new Fantom and just sent one song off to be copyrighted. I do mostly sacred music but definitely love a great variety of music. Thanks again.
