chopping sample and creating custom rhythm set

Post by menappi »

Could somebody here help me take my chopped sample (i've done this already), assign to the keyboard and save that somewhere so I can pull it up later??

Mark the samples in sample list, then select "load" on the F keys and choose "create rhythm set".

Thanks. So 'rhythm sets' can be sent to the keyboard as well as the pads? what if I choose more sounds than available keys (say 17 if i choose pads or 70-ish if i want them on the keys)?

Sorry I'm so noob with this..i attempted to do this and had some trouble. Manual failed to help me...This is what I did..

-Added kick drum samples to my memory card
-Pressed save/load-import audio, navigated to my card, found the samples, selected the ones i wanted and loaded them.
-from the sample list i selected them all, load utility and then added them to the keyboard. sounds were on the keys like i wanted (although volume for each was lower than I wanted. I wanted to normalize them all but couldn't figure a way out to do this on all at once, tediuos to do one at a time..is there a better way? possibly putting the kicks on a seperate part and just boosting the volume?)
-try to write the rhythm. save it. from the sample list i unloaded the samples (thought it would just clear the list..but then my rhythm wouldn't work..the kicks didn't play. do all my samples have to be in the sample list dialog? It looked messy so i thought i could erase..

sorry if this is confusing. I wish I could just import my kick, snare, hats, etc folders and assign the folder to keys and save each as a rhythm just like that...do the samples need to be saved to the keyboard memory for them to work?

Yes, external samples need to be saved on card and loaded into memory to work - they are not stored in the patch.

Although you can edit audio on board, it's often easier to make sure your samples are normalized and ready(chopped, processed, etc.) before you import them. Additionally, you can edit the patch and increase the gain for each key/patch. From there, maybe seperate tracks are good idea to control them in the mix.

This is so frusterating! I just tried like 5 times to take a sample, chop it, assign it to the keyboard (that all works), then go into the mixer and try to sequence something up but with my user bank whatever selected (in mixer) i press the keyboard and I hear the sample but it's mixed with another synth sound..i can't figure out why. I also need a way to find out how to get the BPM of the sample (before I chop it?) to stretch it out correctly. I know i should prob do this on the computer (i already got my sample the perfect size off the comp) but i wanna get good at just using the fantom, unless there's a really easy way on the computer. I can't find any tutorials on using the fantom S to chop a sample and arrange those in a song ....

also, about memory. when i load the sample off my card and lets say , create a rhythm thing..do i write this to the fantom internal memory or back to my card? or am i missing something..i tried to write it and later when i came back to the sample list all the samples were gone..hrmm..
