Replacement buttons

Post by wudsiba »

I'm finally to the point where I really need to replace a few buttons, but I have a few questions first... I need to replce one of the curser, a function, and one of the sequencer buttons. Are these all the same type, or are they all different? Should I buy them directly from Roland, or is there a cheaper way to go? I don't mind paying for quality. Are there buttons that will last longer?
Also, I really hate the thought of cracking this thing open... Is there any other type of routine maintanance I may want to take care of while I'm doing this? Any other cables or soldering conections that I should check or replace? Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, HAPPY NEW YEAR to all at the clan! Can't wait to see what the new year brings!

I had to replace some switches and after hunting high and low got in touch with Rolands spares and they sent me them for a ridiculously low price...hooray for Roland UK

Replacement Buttons

Stop, Play, Record, Mixer, Layer/Split, Patch/Rhythm, & Sampling buttons are one type of switch. All other buttons on your Fantom X are another kind of switch. Call Roland US at 323-890-3700 & tell them the ones you need & they'll ship pretty fast. $3 to $5 bucks per switch. If they have to back order any of them, don't open your rig until you have them all. It's quite a challenge to get into & to get it all back together. If you have any switches that feel like they're close to going on the fritz you might as well replace those while you have it open. Take plenty of digital pictures as you take it apart so you'll be absolutely certain of how it goes back together.

One other thing I've experienced. If you move around from gig to gig alot, sometimes the cable for the screen can vibrate loose. Check to make sure it's all the way down on its connection. There's a photo of it somewhere here on the forum.

Good luck, be patient, & work slow during your repairs.
