I have a few dozen SVQ files on the X. I can update them all and save them again as SVQ, but now I want to save them all as midi file again ( called smf on the synth ) so I can work with them on the pc. But for a couple, creating SMF is grayed out, and thus not possible to save.
Does anybody has an idea why I cannot save some SVQ files as a midi file?
Cannot save as midi file
Re: Cannot save as midi file
Nobody has his same issue?
Re: Cannot save as midi file
I don't know the menu structure in the Fantom, but on the Juno hitting the [write / save/load] button gives save and load song/song+samples/all samples options. Reaching the save as SMF option at all requires Shift+Utility in song edit mode.
Re: Cannot save as midi file
On the fantom, you just have to press the save/load button, and on the screen you see the option to save also in smf format.
But for a few svq files this option is greyed out.
And I don't get it why it's like that.
Original all my svq files started as midi files. I altered them to my needs/likes and saved them as SVQ. So normally it can't be that there is copyright protection, or some exotic setting blokking the transformation to smf? There is also no audio data attached or something.
If someone is willing to take a look, I can mail one of the files that won't save as smf.

Re: Cannot save as midi file
Hi dojec,
The only smf files that I have been unable to edit and save are those with copyright data (which I think is embeded in the first bar or so). Interesting that with such files it seems saving as svq is not a problem
But if you compiled the file from scratch this explanation won't help.

Re: Cannot save as midi file
They are not created from scratch.
Most of them are harvested from the net, and then I changed them to be used by me.
So it's a possible explenation.
Getting this copyright out of the file is propably not possible I guess?
Btw, I didn't knew it was possible to copyright midi files.

Re: Cannot save as midi file
Sure. Copyright is probably not the right term to apply to midi data, but I have come across various types of message when trying to edit such files...
...so for example trying to save an SMF file my Fantom might be greyed out. Then when I try the same thing on my Tyros, it allows the save but gives a warning against using the file for other than personal use.
It might theoretically be possibly to overcome this restriction in saving the file by chopping the first bar (bar 0 or bar 1 depending on the system) using a system such as Cubase.
However I couldn't possibly advocate such an action.
Happy Christmas.

Re: Cannot save as midi file
I guess the only thing to get it back in midi format is to record the sequence with an external device then.
Thanks for the explenation.
And happy end year.
