tine "buzz" on EP patches....

Post by tom moon »

I'm a newbie to roland synths, and just got the FS because I liked several of the EP sounds, both on the memory and in the SRX card. today, I noticed that when playing some of the patches (FS Rhodes, the SRX suitcase, etc) there's a lot of tine buzz and almost distortion on some notes, particularly in the octave above middle C. is this inherent to the samples or is it possible to modify via effects or patch editing? seems most noticable when playing the patch solo, w/ no rhythm. not a huge deal but on some things it would be nice to start with a "cleaner" tone....

thanks all for this great site. no matter how much of a beast the FX turns out to be, the FS is an amazing instrument. must say I feel lucky to have encountered it...

Welcome here and I'm glad you're enjoying your FS - it's a great machine.

About the buzz - it could be that the wave inside the patch itself is buzzy (like a wurlitzer or old rhodes sound), and that the MFX are set to make some buzz. If you are playing the sound at veeery low levels it can also be the well-known naturally-occuring digital distortion that is being amplified due to mastering or MFX compression.
