Cleaning Dust Inside Screen
Cleaning Dust Inside Screen
Hey guys,
Today I noticed that there's some dust built up inside the screen of my Roland Fantom X7. It appears that there are two layers of glass for the screen. I wiped down the outside one with a soft cloth, but there still remains dust on the inner screen.
I like to keep the things I own in good shape... especially something worth this much.
Does anybody have some wisdom that they're willing to share? I find it hard to believe nobody's ever had to deal with this before.

Dust in the G8 LCD Screen
Just got a new G8.
I’ve got a spec of white dust (approx 1mm in diameter ) under the glass of the LCD screen. It’s only visible when the G8 is turned off, but nonetheless irritatingly visible.
Has anyone had a similar problem ?
Is it worth opening the G8 top panel & trying to access the LCD screen from underneath to maybe ‘blast’ with something like a PC air cleaner ?
Any other suggesstions ?

You use a blow-can and you'll really have problems... Don't do it.. You'll only blow **more** dust in there...

Re: Cleaning Dust Inside Screen
So it seems like other people are having the same problem as me. That's the exact issue I have... I can't really notice the dust much when the board is on, but when it's turned off it's easy to see several specks of dust trapped underneath that cannot be wiped off.
I'm worried that this could be harmful to my keyboard and, most of all, it's bugging the heck out of me that it's just staying there and I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
By the way, this thread might be old, but I'm still having this problem haha.

I took
mine to a hardware store and had it removed. 40 bucks. now its back so i just live with it.
Re: Cleaning Dust Inside Screen
Yup... I've removed mine twice. Both times were a real pain because of the static attracting even more dust so I had to do it carefully and quickly... And even after removing the dust twice, trying to maintain it clean by vacuming it regularly with a brush tip, the dust is back in there again, and I'm not interested in doing it again, so I learned to deal with it and forget about it.. And when I did that, it magicaly disapeared..

^^ How did you remove the dust? Is there an easy way to remove th etop glass?
Any tips would be helpful.

dusty fantoms
quit being pussies and tear into it, if your capable of figuring out 1% of the fantoms capabilities you can do this blindfolded. And yes I do own A fantom x-6,and I have cleaned mine numerous times. Now with that being said, replacing a cracked black key on my fantom left me in the pussy catagory. I found a place to replace it for about 100.00 dollars which tells me that it is not that difficult.(labor and parts),but I would have to take my keyboard to them before getting sceduled for repair.I'm not prepared to be without my fantom for up to 2 months(yes they are that backed up).

Re: Cleaning Dust Inside Screen
I have taken my X8 apart to replace a broken key(huge undertaking, even for a person with electronics knowledge), I would not recommend it for the faint of heart. I also forgot to clean the screen while I was in there
I ordered the part from Roland, but getting the grease was a whole different ballgame, and you have to use a certain type or the whole thing explodes!(if you don't have grease the key will start to stick after a while). Roland does not sell the grease, and the only US supplier sells 10 gal buckets wholesale to businesses for mega bucks!!
I found one company with the grease and used my company ID and a lot of BS on paperwork to get around getting a free tube sample. It was a real pain, but it can be done! The repair job was extremely tedious(and I consider myself pretty good at that sort of thing), and you have to make cuts and modifications to parts just to get them out as it was assembled with machines.
BACK TO THE POINT. It is a bear to open as you have to take almost every screw out. There are a lot of parts attached and you feel like you're birthing a baby with jaws of life. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend it to most people, but I did it successfully, so maybe someone else can as well.
