Exporting internal waves
Exporting internal waves
Does anyone know if there is a way to export the multisamples of internal wave memory (e.g. on the sampler)? Or at least a way to view the single waves of the multisample (mapping and/or loops)?
Or the only way to export a fantom sound is to manually re-sample and re-edit all the stuff?
Thank you.

Re: Exporting internal waves
You cannot copy the internal multisampled sounds just like that. You can either do it manually (the classic way, sample C and F# at each octave), or use software like Sample Robot.
Re: Exporting internal waves
Thanks Artemiy... i guess that you mean using software (Sample Robot like) for the editing of the samples.
Re: Exporting internal waves
Does anyone have anything cheaper than this program for automating this process? SampleRobot is 399 and up from there.
Re: Exporting internal waves
extreme sample converter is cheaper...
Re: Exporting internal waves
Thank you, alrakis. Does it automate the sampling of hardware as well the way Sample Robot appears to do it? It does say it works with hardware and deals with MIDI but I dont see if it automates the process. Does it strike the key at various velocities to ensure it gets all the layers? It sounds like a lot of manual work to sample a hardware synth which is why I have never done it.
Re: Exporting internal waves
no i think not...
it can convert between formats, and automatically find (or suggest) the loop points in plain samples, which is the hardest job for me.

Re: Exporting internal waves
I use Sample Manager (Mac only) and although it cannot auto-sample, it does perform a lot of routine tasks for you. A very nice tool and it's about $79.

Thanks Artemiy. I use PCs so....I guess I will have to look for something else to help with this task. Alrakis, are you on Mac or PC?

Re: Exporting internal waves
I've sampled a few things via Cubase SX. Using a midi part with C and F# on several octaves aligned on bars, I play this and record the audio. Then I chop the audio at the bars, use one of the notes copied onto itself to prepare a loop with a suitable crossfade, then copy, loop and crossfade all the other notes (using multiple selection and the first note as a crossfade template). Finally, bounce down each crossfade and send the resulting wavs over to the keyboard. Crossfade sample positions I get from swapping the SX ruler to samples instead of bars (moving the origin can help as well).
Usually the really hard bit is to create the multisample in the keyboard! This takes as long as creating the samples.
I've done this for about 5 different patches and it works fine. Guess if I needed 50 patches then I'd buy a tool though...
Mike.

Re: Exporting internal waves
Thanks, Mike. Couldn't you just do this on the Fantom. You could hook up the other synth to the audio input on the Fantom and have a simple midi file on the Fantom that strikes the 10 notes. Then you resample, and then autochop the 10 separate hits. Then you would have to create the loops as needed and build the multisample on the Fantom itself.
Is it easier to use Cubase SX for this function?

I'm on PC howardS.
I never used Sample Robot, I did my jobs manually some time ago.
I recently bought a SRX-97 but my fantom has all the slots occupied, so since the boards contains few waveforms I'm thinking to sample the ones that are used in the 3-4 patches that i like. And since now my time is not very much I was looking for a quicker way

Re: Exporting internal waves
howardS - I've never tried using the Fantom directly. I use SX every day so that's simply my natural and first choice. Loop points are always tricky so I crossfade a short sample with itself to create a seemless loop. I also load the same samples into my Triton Extreme.
alrakis - See what you're saying. There's no access to direct preset sample data that I know of. I wish there was because that'd make it easier to move from one keyboard to the next when upgrading. For instance, if I had the O1W sample data then I'd be able to simply stick it into the Fantom...
Perhaps there's a bit of money to be made here creating sample libraries of other synth patches on request?
Software which resamples other keyboards:
Emulator X2 - into their own format only I think
Samplerobot - don't know anything about this one
Extreme Sample Converter - into various formats, inc Akai
CDExtract - Mac only I think
Mike.
