Grazie Artemio!!

Post by Vlad_77 »

Artemio,

First off thank you for your contributions to this community! Second, I ordered and downloaded the TWEAK BOOK and I daresay it is one of the best books written on synthesis I have had the pleasure to read! Too often in our modern music technology we settle for what comes in the box. I have already tried some of your techniques on my X8 and indeed, a true beast lies within! I am looking at the rest of my gear with an eye toward using your suggestions on them. Even the now humble K2000 is not safe from your ideas!

Keep up the fantastic work!

Vlad

PS Have any tricks to emulate WITHOUT sampling the two crescendi in the Beatles "A Day in the Life"?

Vlad, thanks a lot, it's a great pleasure to hear you enjoy the book! As for emulating or re-creating some well-known sounds, I am just not into that, I myself simply have too many ideas ;-)

The Tweakbook

Post by kwgmatthies »

Vlad_77, please pardon me for hijacking your thread.

Artemio -- I own a Fantom XR(2), and it is under-utilized in this studio, as I feel that the editor provided by Roland is so awkward, and the panel user interface is sorely lacking the minimal functionality present in the XV (I also own an XV3080, and because it has more action buttons on the front panel, it's less awkward to program).

But enough of my complaints!

I want to know how much in depth your book covers the rack model. Please consider that I have more than a working knowledge of the Fantom architecture.

In general, I'm looking for more techniques, tips & tricks, how-to's, and that sort of thing, but only for the rack, specifically.

My question is: Does your tweakbook cover techniques for the rack synthesizer in depth?

The sound engine of the Fantom-XR is the same as in all Fantom-X synths, so yes, the book covers the rack version equally. There is a parameter map section in the book, with a dedicated map for each synth, including the Fantom-XR.

OK, thanks.

I know the synth engine is the same for all models, and the manual has an adequate discussion of the effects and parameters...actually the manual is quite good in its treatment of Fx -- better than the competition.

What I'm looking for is more of a technique book with specific steps, or perhaps something like a cookbook for sound design, specifically with the rack.

My problem is that programming the Fantom rack is very tedious. What I need is a more usable editor. I had hoped Sound Tower would get on the ball, but with the announcement of the G, I wonder if they'll deliver a Fantom X editor?

Anyway, thanks for your help.
