usb MIDI (stupid?!) question - sorry !

I have searched for an answer to what seems a really simple question so will have to defer to your wisdom please...

Can the usb port on the Fantom X be used to convey MIDI information directly to a V Synth XT ?
It is not clear to me whether the usb port needs to be connected to an intelligent host (eg PC) to work between MIDI devices. I know how to switch usb MIDI on fine and would need a usb B-type cable at both ends to do what I am suggesting (they do exist).

No, since both the Fantom and the V-Synth are USB slave devices, none of them can work as a USB master device.
