FCB1010 Foot Controller

Post by Andy Keys »

Hello,

I've seen a fair few people on here refer to using the FCB1010 MIDI foot controller with the Fantom.

How do you use it & what for?

Do you programme the unit itself, or the Fantom?

Is it worth it?

Cheers

You have to do a little programming as you need to assign all the switches and the expression pedals. I use mine to trigger RPS patterns while I am playing. So, you set up a song and decide what you want to change with the RPS patterns and then assign them properly and trigger them from the FCB1010. Some of the other threads do explain how to set it up. As an example, have a look at this thread.

I use one, but as I have a combined keyboard / guitar setup, then it is useful as a multipurpose midi controller.

Essentially for keyboards, I use one of the pedals as volume, 2 of the switches for leslie slow / leslie fast, and then finally I use the switches to connect to the hold input (this allows me to hold a note while I get my hands onto my guitar, and then when I hit the right button, the keyboard stops, and the guitar starts).

I also have a switch programmed to hold a bass note, which depends on which patch I have on the fantom I use (I retune them according to which song they are for).

All the programming for that is done on the FCB1010 - its not the most intuitive thing around, but its not impossible.

It really is useful for me, as I'm trying to do lots of things at once, and it allows me to control them - I have once set it up as a midi pedalboard, so I can play lots of notes, but its a lot of programming, and there are only 10 notes ...

I guess it depends what you might want to do with your feet :)

Cheers
James
