Hi,
I have tried FAQ 4.1 but am not getting the result. may be I'm missing something.
These are the steps I'm doing.
1) Recorded the Track1 with desired patch (say patch 1).
2) Now for Track2 with a different patch (say patch 2), I chose perf mode.
3) From any USER performance, selected patch2 to be in part1 with required key range.
4) Hit SONG EDIT and then tried to record in Track2.
5) What happened was that, the already recorded track1 started playing using patch2 while I started recording in track2 using patch2. So the final result was both tracks with patch2.
The FAQ tells about switching to different PARTs within a performance. I couldn't get how does that relate to different TRACKs in a song.
Since this was not clear, I didn't do anything using F2 [Part View] to switch to a different perf part.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Same patch in all tracks while recording a song
You must be in performance mode right from the beginning when recording a song. I always set up the sounds I want to use in performance mode first before recording ie; patch, pan, volume, mfx, chorus, reverb etc. If you dont like what you hear then change the performance as you go along and re record parts that way.
So if you record a part in patch mode first and then goto performance mode the first track will have the sound of the 1st performance track and not the patch you started with in patch mode.
Does that sound confusing?

Re: Same patch in all tracks while recording a song
Turn on Fantom, click Layer/split. Select a patch for trk 1, click on trk 2 and select another patch.
click back onto trk 1 in song edit or mixer and hit record and record something.
click onto trk 2 and record something else. You should now have 2 patches playing at the same time.
Do the same with trks 3,4,5,6 up to 16.
If you recording drums at the same time as recording trk 1 they will be recorded onto trk 1 as well as the patch and you will have to use Extract to extract the drums onto say trk 10

Re: Same patch in all tracks while recording a song
Thanks both.
At Solitary man,
No it makes quite a sense. So you mean that I have to set up all the desired patches with other parameters in different parts of a performance FIRST before I hit the REC button for the very first track. Ok, let's say in this case, when I record for track1, the keys will automatically sound in patch1 of part1 and then I move on to track2, it will again map itself to the patch2 in part2. Is this correct?
Does every part of a performance map to corresponding track of a song?
At regerp1,
if I select a patch for track1 and then click on track2 and go to select the second patch, don't I go back to patch mode again? Or if I hit the LYER/SPLIT button again, it goes back ro perf mode and that should be ok then? It seems from various sources that one always has to be in perf mode before recording.

Go to performance mode and go to prst - 01. It should have piano mapped to every part. On the main performance screen, you should automatically be on "part 1". Click the Patch List tab, and choose whatever sound you want. Once done, move with the conroll arrow down to part 2, and choose what part you want on track 2 etc through 16.
Click the "Kbd" box next to Part 1 to make it the selected patch. Click record, record what you want with that sound.
Go back into the performance screen, deselect the keyboard box, and check it on part 2. Go record what you want on track 2. Repeat - sucess.
Note that when recording into the sequencer you are recording MIDI data, not sounds. The same thing will play back no matter what sound you choose so you CAN NOT change a sound for a part and keep what you original played. The same sound must remain corresponding to the same track.

Re: Same patch in all tracks while recording a song
Thanks MrPillow, the instructions were quite easy to understand and will try it tonight. One thing, will the performance screen (and settings) remain unchanged when I switch back and forth between performance screen and song edit screen OR I have to save the performance first? Hope I'm clear.....
I couldn't really get your last para. Do you mean that after I save the song with an SVQ name, it will always play back the original sounds recorded in each track no matter what sound is currently chosen to be played on the keyboard?

Re: Same patch in all tracks while recording a song
Many thanks MrPillow and others. I finally could successfully do that. I will soon post a small section of the tune I was up to.
My next aim will be to learn to record manual percussions, rhythm patterns and arpeggios in individual tracks. Hope this should not be much of a problem unless there is any small catch somewhere. In that case, I will have to bug you guys again.
