splitting a midi controller...

Post by Audissey »

here is what i'm running.

Fantom X6 v1.0
Edirol Pcr-M80 (61 key midi controller)

i am a reggae keyboardist and i would like to set up my patches so that i have both boards split. i can split the fantom but it wont let me split the midi controller. is it possible? or do i have to actually edit my pcr and assign different parts on the keys to different midi channels the hard way. thanks for any help i can get.

Splitting a midi controller is not possible the easy way. That's for sure. In performance mode the key ranges don't apply to incoming midi data. Using RPS part switching it is possible to switch parts for an external keyboard (maybe that helps) and you can program patches with split sounds (if you're really really need a split).
Indeed the best solution is programming the masterkeyboard with a split. You have to switch 2 keyboards between songs (unless you use midi program change, but that's also a lot of work to setup that for every performance).
Also don't forget the pads as extra trigger possibility.
