I think that card was specifically created for certain markets (ie. probably US... but not Europe).

I remember seeing it on Roland's US website being offered as a 'special offer freebie' with one of the products (can't remember which... might have been the Juno G). There wasn't much info available at the time... but my guess was that it's a 'compilation card'... being made up of voice sets and patches/performances from other cards.

And er.. no... I haven't tried it...!!

Not quite correct ;-)

It's a card which new Fantom buyers can get as addon here in Europe (and maybe elsewhere). You can't buy it otherwise (unless someone offers it on Ebay).

It contains a small set of Jon Lord (Deep Purple) overdrive Hammond organ sounds. The most important sounds on it are
a) a typical overdrive hard rock organ with variations
b) a typical "child in time" patch (soft, but very percussive patch like John Lord used it on Cild in Time on the album Deep Purple in Rock)

Ask someone who bought a Fantom recently and got SRX 97, if you want to know more about it...

It's good, but not that good

The SRX-97 board contains 12 Patches made up from just 14 waveforms.

The first 2 are classic Lord overdriven Hammond sounds and are almost identical, but the first has a low octave added in.

There's a spot on copy of the sound from the opening of Child In Time, but the rest seem pretty useless to me as they are.

They are either so overdriven or distorted that anything more than monophonic lines sound a mess, or they have ridiculous delays on them.

Not worth spending silly mnoney on, but I think the waveforms will come in handy for tweaking my own organ patches.

I got one with my Fantom- the overdriven organs simply use the MFX so you can tweak them a bit. I'm not really into organs so I'm selling it anyway.

It only works with Fantom X6/7/8 and Juno G though.

I was thinking about re-creating the patches using the internal Fantom wavefroms & flogging the board.

I'd be interested if you come up with any decent versions of the overdriven hammond :)

I'll have a look when I get some free time, but I don't have much at the moment because I seem to be always learning songs!

The internal organ waves just don't cut it.

I'll try again with the organ waves off the SRX-07 and I've just got Artemio's Tweakbook, so I might try it with some of his Hammond sounds.

Still searching for that Hammond sound. ;o/

Worth the effort?

I've taped a couple of my band's recent gigs and I've used some of the Overdriven Hammond sounds from the SRX-97. They don't cut through that well in a full band setting. The overdriven sound is too round and soft to cut through, and the CiT sound has a really loud click that cuts through but the rest of the sound disappears in a live setting.

I've ended up using the Power B SRX from SRX-07 as my main live Hammond sound as it cuts through well in live settings. The others sound very good solo or in recordings, but live don't make it for me.

I'm trying to create a Performance (cos I need 2 MFX) hammond that will allow me to control keyclick and overdrive from the 4 knobs and the leslie brake and speed from the assignable switches.

I want it to be based on the internal waveforms rather than any from SRX boards. If I get any joy I'll post it here.

What is the easiest way to transfer a Performance from 1 Fantom to another?

compact flash card is your easiest route but if your using SRX boards you need to make sure the FX your transfering patches to has the same SRX boards loaded on both Fantoms.

Andy, are you familiar with the B4Real hammond emulator (available on this forum). If no: be sure to use this as a basis for what you are trying to achieve. If yes: don't you like this sound better than the SRX-07's?

Hey Maureez,

I downloaded B4Real a couple of weeks ago but haven't been able to play with it yet. (too busy working and gigging). Was gonna have a bash with it now I've got a short break.

I want whatever I end up using being do-able on a standard factory Fantom, no SRX's if possible, so if need be I can take my memory card to another Fantom & have my sounds there.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Andy
