There's an organ sound in the beginning of Styx's "Blue Collar Man" which is similarly heard in the beginning of Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers".
I've been trying for a long time now to come up with something similar on my X6. I've got a couple of usable patches but it's just not as good as I want it to be.
I've tried a million combinations of organ patches with different distortion/overdrive effects and they are all just compromises.
Anyone, by any chance, have an idea for how to get that sound out of the Fantom X?
Some help getting a particular organ sound
Re: Some help getting a particular organ sound
Hi Echo. Look I don't know the exact sound you are looking for, but I recommend you trying copying tones. Each Patch is made up of 4 tones. The Fantom X comes with a Deep Purple organ patch which actually is Peed Durple. Try combining this patche's TONE 3 with other tones from organ sounds. But copy this TONE 3 to other organ sound and then start editing.
You could also sample some other organs to provide the waveform to the organ you want to create.
Hope it is helpfull, if any doubts tell my and I will develop my explanation.

Re: Some help getting a particular organ sound
If I'm not mistaken, the classic Hammonds (which I think is what was used) have an overdrive control. You could probably simulate this by using an overdrive. I'm not too familiar with real drawbar organs. It sounds like Blue Collar man has some vibrato (slight pitch variation). Also, make sure you have a very short attack and release time on your TVA, in order to get the staccato stabs to sound right.
Re: Some help getting a particular organ sound
or you could just download the free b4real patch and dial it in perfectly..

I did download that patch, however both of those songs require several other sounds besides the organ. If I remember correctly the B4real thingy can only be used standalone, no?
Re: Some help getting a particular organ sound
well if you do a little jockeying I think you can grab a few slots in the performance to add other patches if you need them

Re: Some help getting a particular organ sound
The B3 I played live and in the studio for years did not have an overdrive control, but it was easy to overdrive the leslie because it had a pretty small amplifier in it.. I think 30 or 40 watts at most. If you wanted a really dirty sound you could turn down the input volume on the amp and crank down on the volume pedal on the console to get it going gritty.
The overdrive control on B4Real is really easy to use and sounds pretty darn good. I just started to use B4real last week and it really does cut through the mix unlike many of the X8's native patches. Thanks, JC

Hello JC,
Does the B4Real work in the Juno-G?
If so, I'm doing something wrong?

Where do you download the Free B4Real patch?
Re: Some help getting a particular organ sound
OK, I'm doing this from memory, I don't have either of those songs in front of me. Pull up preset #PR-A 92 and then dial in effect #37 "VS overdrive". That should get you within a couple of tweaks (drive, high gain, low gain etc) of what your looking for. Or not... again I'm doing this from memory so I could be way off.
