BS thing about the fantom X6-8
one thing that really gets me ticked about the fantom is the chopping of samples. Let's say you got a loop and chop it into 16 pieces, you're gonna have to go in using the Amp sample modify to set fades at the start and end of each piece, or else you get clicks. On the MPC, all you gotta do is adjust the attack and decay; takes about 6 seconds and you're ready to go. Don't get me wrong, I like everything else about the fantom but this one thing really irritates me. Is the MV like this too?

What makes you think you cant do the same on the fantom ???

Can this be done on the Juno G?
If so how do you go about doing this? Currently I chop samples on my Electribe SX because I have not been able to figure out how to get the clicks out of the samples on the Juno G.

On the Fantoms, before the chop procedure is executed, you can preview the chops on the pads. If you hear a click on one of them, simply move the chop point manually back or forth till you get rid of the click.

I tried everything I could think of tweaking on the fantom; nothing worked, and I asked this board and the MPC board (only replies were people asking me to contact them if I found out how).

I could see this working with a simple mono drum loop or something, but if you're chopping up an actual 'full' loop, it doesn't work.

I've have no problems getting clean full loops. I do exactly as Art has suggested. You don't have to move the end point very far. Just far enough to get rid of the click.

With some loops, yeah, but in terms of chopping that loop into 16 pieces...
Re: BS thing about the fantom X6-8
I agree with you on this Housemaster... This is a very simple add on to the original OS. They wouldn't have to change anything either. They could just add it as an option (like the over-right option). Also, if you know about the JJ OS, then you know that operating system updates are not hard for the companies to do... As far as the MV, there is a really cool option that you can take out pops with a type of instant crossfading or something... Check the new Roland DVD catalogue, or it may be on one of the Roland videos on their siite. Good luck.

yeah man there's tons of stuff they could add to the OS...it's sad really. The MV has me salivating heavily...I'd have to sell the fantom then though
Re: BS thing about the fantom X6-8

yeah there is, but business is business and there not going to do it for free, at least for the first release.
If they had any brains they would revamp it significantly
release the update to existing customer for a fee
and enhance there current sales with the supplied upgrage
The fantom hardware IS under utilised
but roland dont seem to have a clue, there too wedded to the idea of new software=new hardware
Its also got to do with profit margins.
Which will have the larger one?
But this is short sighted because they think Quick sales = quick profits but they cant hold on to this because the have to spend again..
it would be much better to keep a steady cash flow by mass producing what you already have and improve the software.
But since we have been waiting this long for any real updates im not convinced roland has a real brain to work with, its all accountants just balancing the books and customer sat is last on the list with profits and expenditure right there at the top.

Quinxx! I don't know if you have heard anything about the JJ operating system for the mpc 1000 or 2500, but you might want to check it out. The reason I bring it up is that they update this OS several times a month. Fixing bugs, and even adding major new features. This has really showed me that all of these companies deffinately have the ability to fix the bugs in their design and add simple features. I have stated on here several times that I woulkd love to see alternate looping as an option on the fantom, and you have been fighting to fix the bugs. Someone brought up alternate looping for the mpc 1000 and they got it in just a few weeks. If that! And they fix bugs all the time. I really am not trying to bash Roland, as they are my all time favorite company. I just now see how easy it would be for them to do... Got to go to work... Peace.

Yes the JJ OS is really cool. Its sad it took someone not affiliated with akai to hash out their own OS. And it didn't just bring about minor improvements there are features that even the 2500 and 4000 don't have. I always wanted to do the same for my asr-X pro when I had it. Im still debating on getting an mpc1000 in a couple months because of the JJ OS, and the portability would be the best.
