Hi there, my Fantom-S is currently having repairs because it's got faulty realtime controller knobs, started off as one knob going wild of it's own accord but apparently another one is loose enough to become faulty real soon and the other two will go the same way. The repairman tells me it's probably because of the pressure they're being put under inside my hard case that I bought for it, and is suprised that the board itself in my synth underneath the knobs hasn't been damaged because of it. Eeek.
Has anyone else had this problem? What type of case 'fit' should I have looked for...tight enough to stop it wobbling around (but then one would imagine more constant pressure on the knobs because of it), or loose enough for the fantom to wobble about slightly (but then the knobs can bang up against the inside of the case). I think my case has a slight bit of free space inside, enough for it to wobble about slightly, and it's banging up against the top when the case is carried about (or put into the back of my car upside down...)
I'm just wondering what other people's case 'fit' are like, and if any one (loose vs. tight) tends to cause more problems than the other? Any ideas how I can retrofit my existing case to stop this happening again (I don't really want to shell out another £130 for a new case, not after this repair looks like costing me £100+)..

Carry case breaking knobs on Fantom-S
Re: Carry case breaking knobs on Fantom-S
What kind of padding are you using ...
When I use my hard case with the X7, I always use the egg-type foam with the knobs section ...

er, none where the knobs are, it's just got a thin (ie. very thin, 2mm maybe) layer of spongy stuff covered in fur, which lines the whole inside of the case. There is thicker spongy stuff over the keys. Maybe I need to acquire some spongy egg-cup type foam stuff from somewhere..I'll try that.

Yeah ... my SKB hard case came with padded foam inserts that I put over the pad area and the other end ... I put the egg-carton form over the knobs ... and maybe the screen ...
Good luck with the repair ... it's worth it ... How much, BTW?
