yamaha motif arpeggios
At the moment the only thing that I liked about the motif es was the arps and what I mean is the way the Acoustic guitar strumming could be done using the Arps which is now taken to the motif xs it just sounds so natural. I just want to know if the fantom can also do this or has anyone been able to program Acoustic guitar arps like the ones on the motif?

I honestly don't well my Fantom well enough right now(only had it for 3 days) to know if this is a possibility. I have heard samples that are pretty damn good. You may want to look into purchasing some samples if its something you really need as an option.
Re: yamaha motif arpeggios
there is much more then arpeggios in new motif XS,
to the point I'm considering replacing my fantom X6 with XS6.
To start with there is new four layers CFIII grand piano.
Piano on fantomX was behind already even S90ES which has 3 layers of S700 grand piano.

I am happy with the piano sounds of the fantom x I like them more than the yamaha s90 piano. I am happy with this machine and I am not thinking of replacing it but I would like some nice guitar arps on it which will bring it to another level.
the motif XS looks good too but I love my fantom too much

I agree, the roland and korg are behind Yamaha when it comes to acoustic instruments. even though roland is better than Korg.
Both Roland and Korg sounds more 'produced' (as I have heard people on Yamaha forum say) while the Yamaha is more natural; I think its good to have all the 3 Japanese instruments - Korg, Roland, Yamaha

Re: yamaha motif arpeggios
well if it is the natural sound that you are looking for then skip the big three and go for the Kurzweil k2661. I know it does not have USB but for the finest strings, spanish guitar, drums etc this machine duplicates them very well all you need to do is listen to it once and you will know but again the motif has the finest arps I have heard and if there is a way to make a fantom sound close to it then.......

Re: yamaha motif arpeggios
The best quality acoustic sounds are found on softsynths. The problem is that they're scattered and not available in one package. The people I've spoken to who have played the XS, all of whom do not know each other, have said the exact same thing. The XS sounds wonderful and plays more like an arranger than other workstations. It also a bit easier to use and the color screen is nice. You know alot of these things sound like the Fantom and while the sounds are different I don't know that I'm ready to shell out that much money especially when in under a year Roland is going to announce their next workstation and it may trump everything that's coming out.
Re: yamaha motif arpeggios
SDS,
the price difference is not that big, e.g. motif XS6 2199$
and fantom X6 1995$. It's almost nothing for much newer and mostly better sounds, 4 arp, vocoder, great integration with Cubase
etc.
Try performances of XS, I can say only one world - wow. You can play all day just using one of these...
LAst yesr Roland won wit yamaha mainly because of the UI, now looks like no longer is the case.

Re: yamaha motif arpeggios
Your point is correct regarding the new price and if your going new this is nothing for a new set of quality sounds. However getting a good quality Fantom X6 on Ebay does show a significant price discrepancy as an average sale price is right at $1000 and I should have clarified my point. The sound on XS certainly has that wow factor and I've heard this consistently from the people I talked to. The UI on the Yamaha is indeed very nice and a big step up for them. I'd like to check one out but I can't afford it and I still want to see what Roland has up there sleeve.
Does anyone else find it interesting that in this incarnation of new workstations that both Korg and Yamaha have both moved closer to arranger type keyboards? While they're two totally different beasts, in many ways the similarities for two new workstations is more than it seems? Just thinking out loud.

Re: yamaha motif arpeggios
U can try to get the midi of those arps from someone who has a motif es or xs, then play or edit them with the fantom x
Re: yamaha motif arpeggios
yes that is not a bad idea Dire Virtuoso or the other option is to wait a few more months for the new workstation from roland which I feel would be very nice as I do feel that just like Korg and Yamaha, Roland is going to produce the next generation Fantom or whatever after reading this forum and finding out what the end user wants.
