New Roland Sound module!

Post by sambasevam »

Go to the Harmony-central forums and read about the new SonicCell Roland sound module! Sounds like its a Fantom XR + USB audio device - sampler!

I read about this yesterday. It would be a nice solution to those people who want the current Roland sounds but don't want to pay to get into a Fantom. It could also be a viable solution for gigging as well. As with most things, need to wait and play it and see what its all about.

New Roland Sonic Cell module

Post by benny-de »

Roland Germany announces "Sonic Cell" which looks different from the US Edirol "Studio Canvas". The Cell technically is based on Fantom X with some additional features (MP3 audio...).

Looks interesting. I guess this is the way things will go. More & more crammed into smaller devices.
Any indications on price?

I'm guessing between 5-7 hundred based upon the information presented thus far.

I wonder if it's significant that when advertising the Juno G that Roland touts that it has the same processor as the Fantom but that they make no such claim in regards to the Sonic Cell? In addition, if this was part of a small controller keyboard, it could be killer. It would certainly surpass the Korg microX in capability.

I found it quite interesting that this new product includes 2 SRX expansion slots. There has been some speculation as to whether-or-not Roland will continue to develope new SRX boards. Are they dead in the water? Maybe not!

Cheers!

SRX lives!

Post by MarkShovel »

1) I read that it is an "improved" Fantom Sound engine. There was no information to back up that claim.

2) This is great news for the Roland SRX modules. This seems to indicate that Roland will release new SRX modules. I still do not know why SRX-11 was discontined, but it did motivate me to buy one and I really like the piano samples. Maybe SRX-11 and the new sound module would be too stiff of competition for the Roland Piano line.

Thanks Roland! I am ready to buy a V-Synth GT!

Where did you get this information?

To the below post I agree and believe an even better indication of this could come when Roland releases its next gen workstation, maybe at Winter Namm.

This is very interesting... you know if opens up the option of adding 2SRX boards to the FantomX workstation... AND polyphony.

Remember that there are only 3 MFX + 1 Reverb + 1 Chorus in Fantom-S/X and you have to share them across 16 parts (patches) in a song.

@sergiobklyn, they told me at the Roland booth in Frankfurt.

Price is about 755 Euro, local dealer sells at 699 Euro (www.musik-schmidt.de).
