Newbie question - RAM?

Post by marlo »

Hi all

I've just purchased my first FG8, loving it so far, but one thing I was wondering, is there anyway of checking how much RAM is installed without having to take the keyboard off the stand to open up the bottom panel?

I have had a look through the the first 10 or so pages of this forum, but i cant find an appropriate topic so far.

Many thanks in advance.

MENU, F2 (system), F4 (info), F2 (group down) to Memory Info.

Ah, the info tab, didn't notice that one. Thank you.

Mine says SAMPLE: 0MB (SDRAM) + 1024MB(DIMM) = 1024MB(Total)

So it looks like I have 1GB installed, but what is the 0MB (SDRAM) referring to?

Many thanks

SDRAM is the sample memory built into the Fantom-G at the factory.

Normally this would show up as 32MB. It is displayed as 0MB on your FG8 because the FG's can "see" no more than 1GB memory.

Thanks JunoJohn.

So essentially, my FG's total RAM should be 1056 MB, but it's defaulting to 1024MB because of the FG's inability to see more than 1024 MB?

Thanks all

Yes.

This is not something to be worried about. In fact, you should be congratulated on your purchase! The 1GB of RAM is a nice (and usually expensive) upgrade. And you didn't even have to install it!
