Just Bought the Fantom G6, former X6 owner, have a couple qu

Post by seang »

I owned a Fantom x6 for about 3 years, great keyboard, tons of great features. Now I have a Fantom G6 a few questions come to mind as I spent my first day messing around with the sequencer and the mfx.

Can anybody help simplify the MFX for me? So there is a PFX effect individual for each patch, and then there are 2 global MFX... right?? For some reason every time I change patches the sends and volumes of the FX routings always reset. Also, for rhythm kits... is there different FX settings/routings for each individual drum sound? I put some effects on the 808 909 kit but realized I was only changing the effects individual drums.. Like I had to go to each separate drum in the kit... kick, snare, hat and set the effects for each of them one at a time.. Maybe someone knows what I am talking about and can help clarify the MFX/PFX/Routings for me as I'm a tiny bit confused, is this how it's supposed to work?

Also, I noticed there is no visual grid for editing or creating my own arpeggios. This feature was on X but doesn't seem to be on the G, and from searching the internet it seems there has been no update added that adds this feature. Is this really true or am I missing it somewhere in the menus? I updated to OS 1.5 and I still don't see this feature.

Being that said... Is there anywhere on the G where I can sequence in some kind of grid format similar to the arpeggio on the X? I know there's step record and regular left to right sequencing like in most sequencers but Is there any type of grid sequencing? With the new big lcd display I figured there would be some kind of visual grid sequencing besides microscope.

And that leads me to another problem I came across. I put together my first sequence/song on the G, then I decided to into microscope mode to edit the midi track which my kick drum is on. So I'm in microscope mode, everything is good, I can edit the midi of the kick drum track in microscope view, but the Kick drum track, or whatever track I decide to Microscope on goes into solo play and I can't hear any other tracks besides the one I am editing in Microscope mode. How can I hear all tracks playing including the one I'm editing in microscope mode/view???

Also, Is there any way I can set up a template and have it saved so every time I turn the machine on I have my custom template load right from the start? Or have a song/studio set autoload? I probably should read over the manual again but this is still something I havent really figured out.

I will probably have a few more questions as I dive deeper into the machine, I havent even used the sampler yet so of course I have no samples loaded in RAM but I noticed I couldnt find a "Sample List" like the one on the X where you can switch throug your card and user samples in a list and mark them all. I also hear that when you chop a sample into 16 slices it doesnt automatically assign them... How would I go about manually assigning them?

**arpeggios**

The fantom G basically has almost zero support for user arps, de-featured from Juno G /Fantom X is:

1. no display of arp pattern on prst arps
2. no pattern mode recording for user arps
3. you can record a phrase either in sequencer or externally and import it as an arp... but it is only an arpeggio to the legal definition.
4. You cannot adjust playback style up, ie U/D, D, chord, random, phrase etc like you can on FX or JG (or any other synth with user arps)...they are a fixed phrase with the low note set to low/last note keyed.

So if you reasonably thought you could program an arp then use different motif or keyed chordal variation to modify playback you are out of luck.
