looping questions....

Post by Medic525600 »

Ok, I have a live set set up with multiple splits. One of the splits at the far left of the keyboard is a trance like thump thump rhythm drum beat type thing. Basically here is my setup, the thump thump drum beat is assigned to the lower bottom half of the board. I've been using my left hand to hold down one night to activate the beat and with my right hand I play various lead synth parts Is there a way that I can hold down a note in my left hand and have the beat continue to play even when I lift my hand of the keys? Is what I am saying making sense??? Also when I am not playing a lead in my right hand I am using knob 1 to adjust the sound. Any ideas???

Perhaps you can try assigning the arpeggiator or do a four bar loop recorded sequence for the desired parts and then you can use both hands for performing a synth solo and tweaks.

I'm not sure how the Rhythm Patterns work exactly on the G but another way to do this is use those patterns to play your drums, an arpeggiator(hold) on the bass, and your lead splits on the right hand side. The hold can help to free up your left hand for tweaks.

Of course, sequencing works as well but at the expense of improvising.

Popular topic lately, a better arpeggiator(forbid the thought:two or more) would be of immense value for this.

assign the drum thump thump pattern to an RPS and put it on a pad. trigger the loop from the pad and then go about your normal routine with your left and right hand.

apex, that won't work. :(

You see the "thump thump" consists of 3 sounds via live set set to the lower half of the keyboard. One sound is a trance like sound with movement, the other is a bassline with an arp added and the other is just a noise if you will. So to get my sound I need all 3 together. The only thing I am thinking that should work is to add RAM, and then just resample the thump loop. It has to be a specific number of measures being that it's for a theatre show so that won't be that bad. Couldn't I then change the pad setting to Sample Pad, assign the sample to say PAD 1, then when it comes time in the show press Pad 1 and wouldn't that launch the sample?? I can set it up where I can just press pad 1 and it will play at full volume and play the entire sample correct?? Then while it's playing knob 1 would adjust the modulation in real time correct??? is this the best way to do this??

can you just create a studio set that has the sounds in it that you need (same as the 3 sound that are in the live set) then record the phrase (in studio mode) and then assign the loop to a pad... so on, and so forth?

apex, you are on to something there. It would be a bit more time consuming but definitely possible. Here is a question and please correct me if I am wrong. Can you record 3 separate tracks in studio mode and essentially bounce all 3 to one phrase? I always thought one track = 1 phrase. I understand the concept of phrases I just have never worked with them...

yes. you can record tracks from all 16 internal and all 16 external parts, etc...

and have them all played onto one phrase.
