How to Save Patches/Songs/Projects in "Studio" Mode?
How to Save Patches/Songs/Projects in "Studio" Mode?
First of all, thanks for any help you can give me. I have tried to save instruments to continue developing my song on the G8, but each time I switch to something else or when I shut down the G8, I lose what I thought that I had saved. I realize that the manual says that I have to utilize the "User Bank", instead of the "PRST Bank." Also, I suppose that when I save a sample, or instrument, that it has to be "PRST" or "User" across the board. I've chosen what I thought on the lists provided by the G8, before I "Write" and name the instrument in the particular track.
Thanks again for your help!!

This sounds like a situation I encountered a few days ago. I believe you have to save the "studio set" and that will keep all your patches etc set up in the studio as you'd like.
Hope this helps!

if you edit either preset or user patches, and wish to use them later in a studio or live set then save them as separate user patches. These patches must be saved prior to saving a studio or live set.
Re: How to Save Patches/Songs/Projects in "Studio" Mode?
Thanks for your suggestions. You know, after some searching, I found out that I need to get at least one good USB memory stick, in order to have the memory to save larger projects. I guess this is one reason why I thought that the G8 was saving the stuff, but really didn't. Now, my question is this:
If the manual and one of the downloads I read was talking about a 1GB memory stick, but now I'm seeing memory sticks at Costco and Amazon that are 8, 16, 32 GB's. Can I just as well utilize one of the latter? Thanks.

You are confusing 2 different types of memory...
You need as USB stick to save larger projects/samples etc...
Adding RAM will enable you to load more samples and work with larger Audio tracks....

Re: How to Save Patches/Songs/Projects in "Studio" Mode?
Thanks for clearing that up - You're right. So, on my G8, there is one DIMM slot, which can accommodate up to 1GB of RAM, or as I read in the manual (Which may not be updated) that you can do a maximum of 512MB. But since you're talking about 1GB here, that must be correct.
Now, as far as the USB memory sticks are concerned, what's the max of memory that you recommend them to have? And do I really need to get a Roland?
Thanks Again!

Re: How to Save Patches/Songs/Projects in "Studio" Mode?
First off, make sure you are using version 1.5 which is the latest version of the Roland Software. You can add up to 1gb of memory. After much discussion on here I am updating to the full 1gb. As far as memory stick, I *think* an 8gb stick is the biggest. I can't remember how big mine is (that's what she said) but I am 99.9% sure it's a 8gb. You don't have to buy a roland stick but I've heard some brands don't work. I have a Kingston and it works great...
As far as buying ram, I am planning on getting it here: http://www.oempcworld.com/sampler/Roland/FantomG8.htm
It seems to be the site most recommended!
Good luck and welcome to the Roland world! The boards here have been a great resource for me to get answers to questions etc!

I bought mine on Ebay from funkygiraffeuk for £5.99 plus £3 P&P and it works great
Re: How to Save Patches/Songs/Projects in "Studio" Mode?
Thanks, I'll check that site out. I'll probably have to call support in the morning to find out if my 1 yr old G8 is only able to accommodate 512MB of memory - instead of the 1 GB everyone else is talking about here. Until I find this out, I'll have to wait to buy the DIMM memory. Plus, I haven't removed the cover yet under the board to see if there are one or two DIMM slots there to be utilized. If I have the older version, then I might have to suffice to the 512, but hope not. Maybe if there are two, perhaps, I can fill both slots with 512MB in each. Got to go now and buy a memory stick. I know I've seen at least a capacity of 32GB, but of course, this is not needed, because with every project, there's probably not any more than 1 GB that you'd save at one time, anyway. But knowing me, I'll probably get at least a 8 to 16GB memory stick.

You don't have to call anyone to find out if your board can take a 1gb RAM, it can. Like I said, make sure first of all that you are updated to version 1.5. To check your version watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2EClocxQSU
If you aren't on 1.5, let me know and I'll link a video to show you how to update.
There is only 1 slot for RAM when you open up your system. To learn how to change the RAM watch this:

Good luck!

Man, I'm glad that I can use 1GB, instead of 512GB! Just checked my version, and it's 1.03, so I'll update it after the Falcon's game. If there's a medic to call on in time of trouble - "You the man!"
Thanks Again,

When you go to the Roland site to download 1.5 just follow the instructions and it's very easy to upgrade. Remember to do a factory reset after your update...
Also, here are 2 great YouTube channels to watch and learn a shit ton about the fantom. These are the videos that helped me choose the Fantom over the motif. I watched so videos when I went to the store to play I felt like I already had a pretty decent knowledge of the Fantom whereas I couldn't really figure out the Motif....Just watch all the fantom videos!

Hi, what are the differences in the upgrades, i.e. 1.20 or 1.03 or 1.5??? Why would I need to upgrade?
Thanks in advance
