ARX ARX ARX ????? COME ON ROLAND!!!
I love my fantom G a lot, its a complete machine, and the arx concept is nice.
Imagine, I got my G like 6 months ago, and I'm impatient for new ARX boards so those of you who are waiting since two years...
Roland, what's going on??/
Put out an orchestral ARX board and you'll sell enough the first month to make your cash back with everyone who ask for it everywhere! Strings blows on the g so a board with articulations and all would be the shit.
Even an ARX virtual analog or virtual guitar n bass reproduction I mean come on! We need some expansions. I'm willing to pay 500$ for a good arx board no problem.

With the release of the Yamaha Xf6 which I heard today, Roland better do something. This has been an unreasonably long time to not release an ARX card. These kinds of threads can get frozen or deleted. But Roland needs to hear this. ROLAND - WE ARE YOUR fans - PLEASE fix this problem!

Roland doesn't care about ARX they make more money with church organs and home pianos. Just give up on them, it's quite liberating,

rbarkhouse, you nailed it...
Re: ARX ARX ARX ????? COME ON ROLAND!!!
I don't really understand why people complain about missing or non released arx cards. There are IMHO dozens of things on the FG itself where one can complain about things regarding some flaws in the OS.
But the arx cards are an add on. You have to pay for it and besides that, you should be satisfied with the keyboard in the first place if you bought it. I can't imagine that somebody bought a FG just because of the arx cards.
The sound is one reason to buy a keyboard. Nobody is satisfied with every single sound in the machine, but I would never expect "fixes" from an arx card. Imagine you buy the workstation X and you are not satisfied with its pianos, but the workstation X has some expansion options and than you expect that a new, better piano will be released. If I really depend on a good sounding piano, I wouldn't buy the workstation X in the first place. I would choose another one with better pianos already present in the instrument instead of waiting for a possible expansion add on.
In the same way, Roland can't "fight" against the Motif XF with a new arx card at all. If you go into a music shop and listen to the motif XF and like it, and then you try out the FG and you don't like it that much, do you really think that an arx card would be the deciding factor which one you would choose? I mean, if I like the motif xf better in the first place, I would buy it instead of buying a FG, just because I can make it sounding better by spending 1000 dollars more for two arx cards.

Re: ARX ARX ARX ????? COME ON ROLAND!!!
I think you are right Mo..
People are either going to buy the board they want no matter what it sounds like.. (following the herd), or buy it based upon their 15minutes at a store comparing the motif and the fantom..
So, given that the screen, UI, and keybed of the fantom is more pleasing than the Motif then any sale of a motif over the fantom is clearly the fault of the fantom.... IMO either
* deficiences in arps
"look mummy i can play a song on the motif like my casio, but i cant on the fantom"
* deficiencies in the soundset
make and add an ARX piano and stick arts acoustic guitar in then this knocks out most of the motifs *legendary* acoustic natural sound advantage.
I dont put os, sequencer, or file handling *feature quirks* in this point of sale category cos you have to buy the board to realise these things ...
If Roland made the ARX piano, stuck a piano keybed into a G7 and actually created a FG constrol surface for their own software (novel idea) then they would also take out the S70XS and S90XS without creating a new board from scratch.
Notwithstanding all of the above, I think Roland underestimated the R&D effort to develop ARX boards, have limited resources and are struggling with priorites..

I believe that there will be no more ARX boards,
remember they only made 2 expansions for the original V-synth (D-50 and Vocal designer),
this is all we will get. Myself I don´t really care, but I can understand all you people who are pissed off.

I simply think that the arx cards don't really deliver the ultimate sound experience. They especially don't deliver it for the price you have to pay. For my studio I would take any other vst and it would be better and would cost less and it wouldn't have all those limitations like the number of memory slots or the fact that they are monotimbral. So, the problem with the cards is maybe that to few people actually buy them and therefor Roland doesn't really push the development further.
I have the brass arx card. The single instruments sound good, but the brass combo is not really that better than what you can achieve with conventional sample libraries.
E. Piano card? I had it in my RD700GX. Nothing to write home about.
Drum card. Useless for the conventional gigging musician in a band context. In the studio I see far better and more flexible vst options with thousands of prerecorded midi loops and patterns to give you a start. Yes, you can change the size of your toms and the snares and cymbals. I have never done that in my studio work nor had I the need to do it. When a drummer comes into the studio, he puts his drums into the room and I can't change it neither. So, what's the point of paying for those parameters? At least, I don't see a point there.
Brass card?
Again, I have it. Solo instruments are great, but since it is sample based, there are still limitations and the worst part is that when you play a brass combo, there is a clearly audible latency. The stuck mode doesn't work really good when you play live and after all, you will not get the "ultimate" big, killer brass sound (think Joe Cocker as an example).
The only card I would buy is a piano card. Nothing else is worth the price tag. At least, not for me.
And one last thing.
It's interesting how some people think that Roland should pull a new arx card (basically: new sounds) out because the motif xf is hitting the market, while at the same time so many people "complain" that the only new thing on the motif xf are the sounds and the flash memory.

Re: ARX ARX ARX ????? COME ON ROLAND!!!
the os is in too primitive of a stage to be worried about further arx expansion at this point. i remember when the g first dropped there were several complaints about only having 2 arx slots. havent heard that one in a LONG time lol
Re: ARX ARX ARX ????? COME ON ROLAND!!!
LOL! don't bother asking cause sales on this upper end synthesizer don't justify it period. So, there you go. Its time to move on.

Re: ARX ARX ARX ????? COME ON ROLAND!!!
Well, I want more ARX cards for my fantom G.
Re: ARX ARX ARX ????? COME ON ROLAND!!!
don't get me wrong, we've been wanting the same thing for almost 2yrs now RolandRules. My decision on buying the FG is 50% based on ARX Supernatural sound and idea, 20% screen and mouse, and 20% Studio mode and 10% seamless switching.
I knew that srx sound is good already which is a no brainier to just add most of them to the next Fantom.

sorry, but to say that ARX is not important and that owners should be satisfied with the keyboard in the first place when you bought it- you fail to see the huge marketing Roland put into the ARX.
It was almost headline news over all the other features.

Introducing the most powerful and luxurious live workstation in Roland history. The Fantom-G is a dream instrument that redefines the boundaries of playability and creativity with its advanced sound engine, revolutionary ARX SuperNATURAL™ expansion bay, large-sized color LCD, powerful new audio/MIDI sequencer, first-class “Ivory Feel” weighted keys and more.

javaj,
nothing personal, but an advertising text from the company is the very very last thing one should take even halfway serious. That's true for any product. They always use the same words: glossy, shiny, revolutionary, excellent, extra-large, extra this, extra that.
So, just because Roland put a huge marketing onto the arx, doesn't mean that I should spend all my time anxiously waiting for a new ARX.
The ARX is an option and it costs money. In fact, a lot of money for just one instrument which often is everything but not supernatural. BTW, supernatural is just another marketing term.
If I'm not satisfied with the instrument in the first place, as it is, no arx will make me happier or more content. I have paid for the instrument to use it as it is soundwise. Not to get a placeholder for some future supernatural expansion boards.
