Fantom G ->Cubase (record problem)?

Maybe someone has experienced this..
i can sync the G to cubase and use play/record on the g and cubase will play.
However the problem i has is

When i press RECORD in cubase and it waits for the G to start.
when i start the G, Cubase goes to PLAY mode and record is disengaged.
Anyone know how to stop cubase from disengaging RECORD when you start the G?

By the way, I would love to know how/if I can control Cubase from the Fantom G, and to what degree. I haven't found much information in this topic yet.
