Memory Stick Question

Post by hrfusion »

HI Folks!

I just purchased a Kingston 4GB memory stick that I'm planning to use as a backup (my main one is a Sony Microvault), and I'm having a problem. I transfered everything to the new stick from my computer, and, when I check the contents of the stick from my computer, everything is there. When I plug into the Fantom, however, there are some problems.

Firstly, the project does not automatically load like it does with the Sony, and, secondly, some of my samples and Live Sets are missing.

If anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening I would love to hear them. Thanks in advance for your help!

Kingston drives do not work with the Fantom-G, as per my experience. So I'd simply suggest you not to use this drive, and get another one. I can say that Apacer are the best I tested in my Fantom-G.

Never do the COPY PASTE thing from COMPUTER.
This is a solution for your problem.
Insert SONY Micro Vault in your Fantom G load your PROJECT and then insert Kingston and Save AS Project under the same name.
This is the best way to do a copy Project thing.
Sometimes when I copy Project with PC then I cant load Project from new USB Stick.Sometimes I must wait about 30 minutes to have AUDIO DATA screen gone.
I have Full 512 MB of samples and this is always a problem when I copy Project via PC.
One thing that you must do is to copy small FntomGINI.bin file because this file is for auto loading project. It tells Fantom G what Project to autoload.
Just do the Save AS Project on the Kingston and everything is OK.
Roland 1 GB Stick is Kingston but only difference is that there is no Kingston name on it.There is a Roland. And Roland is not manufacturing USB's.Kingston do that for them.So Kingston is not the best thing in the world but it will work if you Format it from Fantom G and then Save AS Project on it.

Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it! I thought that I had read somewhere in the manual to NOT remove a memory stick while the Fantom is powered up...

Ha, I pop my USB stick in and out of there all the time with the power on.

I am using two 1GB Kingston Data Travelers (which is the exact same stick that Roland was selling with their name on it) and a 4GB Kingston. I've been using the 1GB sticks for 2 years without a single problem. The 4GB stick is newer, but it works fine too.

I have had problems with some of the flash drives, even from the same company...... so it might be just that flash drive not the kind of drive.
