IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY FANTOM?
HI all, although I have not replies regarding reaper and the fantom, I tried setting up the fantom as the midi-slave but was having the problem of the sequencer starting every time i started the sequencer in reaper which I do not want. So I tried setting all the midi parameters to off ie to not recieve program change, bank select, system exclusive, gm1 and gm2 system on and gs reset in the midi menu, but it still receives the start message from reaper WTF?? Is something wrong with my fantom or is it something else I'm overlooking??
PLEEEEEEEEASE HELP I'm banging my head against the wall trying to sync this damn synth to reaper!!!! Thought this would be easy.

Lol. So what do you want to sync if not the sequencer?

Re: IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY FANTOM?
MIDI clock doesn't work?
Re: IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY FANTOM?
Seemingly not. I can't get that to sync either.
That sucks, but I am not surprised at all. That's what you get when you buy Roland... I've had my Fantom G over a year now and it's been half baked since day one. It seems Roland doesn't really give a shit about updates or finishing the OS, so you better sell it if it is mission critical.
So to answer the topic question:
>IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY FANTOM?
Yes. It is made by Roland.

Couldn't agree more. It's unbelievable that the "best workstation ever" has such limited featrues and so many problems.
Re: IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY FANTOM?
Let me get this straight: You guys are saying you can't sync your Fantom with an external sequencer or that you are annoyed that the Fantom sequencer starts when you start an external sequencer?
I have my Fantom synced with Sonar with no problems at all. The only way I know to avoid the sequencer to start when the Fantom is in Slave Mode sync is to leave it empty.

V-CeeOh, I think the question was:
- How does one get the Fantom G timed LFOs, timed Delays etc, arpeggiator and temp synced to external sequencer?

Re: IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY FANTOM?
MENU - SYSTEM - SYNC/TEMPO - SYNC MODE - set to SLAVE MIDI or SLAVE MTC according to your needs.
Make sure you also have CLOCK SOURCE set to USB if you're using your Fantom USB connected to your PC.

Yes. I have those exact settings.
Logic is set up like this and I have tried other ways too:

My patch (Fantom G in studio mode) with 1/4 note tempo delay is not matching the tempo of the host (logic).
Basically, it should work with just MIDI clock, right? But it doesn't.
If I press the TEMPO button on the Fantom G, it says Tempo = MIDI. But it does not listen and adjust to the MIDI clock...
Also: Now my Fantom G doesn't let me go into System anymore. It just prompts "Now Playing!" when I push the Menu button. Obviously nothing is playing, all sequences are stopped and no notes are ringing... Only way to get out of that is to reset the machine with a power off.

I use a PC and don't know Logic but that looks very similar to what I have in Sonar. My Fantom is in SLAVE-MIDI mode and like I said, the setup is working fine. I would be very upset if it didn't since Sonar is my main sequencer.

theshinenz,
What exactly are you trying to sync to Reaper if not the start? if you aren't recording a song, make sure you don't have a song loaded and you should be fine. if you are recording a song, mute the parts that you don't want to hear. I have my FG slaved to Logic and everything works just fine.
hope this helps

Your tempo delays, LFOs etc sync to Logics tempo? What's your settings, since it doesn't work here.

thanks guys, yes i am trying to sync arps/lfos/rhythm. I was hoping that it would recieve the clock signal. However i can do it without the sync just more work to line everything up thats all. I have tried almost everything. I will try having no songs loaded in the sequencer. the stupid thing is when you set to midi clock which seems to be the only way I can get any sort of sync happening none of the arps with play until you start recording in reaper even though i have it set to send the clock all the time, annoying really. Will give it a go tonight.
Thanks agaon for replying.
