The procedure that I do every time I need to upgrade my Fantom-G is the following:

1. Backup the internal project to a computer folder.
2. Perform a Factory Reset.
3. Upgrade the Fantom-G.
4. Perform a Factory Reset again.
5. Restore the internal project back to internal memory.

This method has one drawback: You lose whatever content is included in the OS version. But again, using the Librarian and/or Nexoe Fantom Yase, you can mix and match any patches you want from the original OS 1.50 content into your own project.

Artemiy: Once again, I trully understand that there is NO patch data into the phrases themselves, but many times there is the need to play the phrase with the sounds you used to record the phrase in the first place. That's the reason one might need to transfer the sounds as well. That's what I say.

The bottom line is that even though there is a "File Utility" function, it doesn't work for one or a few sounds, meaning you can't choose a bunch of sounds from one project and copy/move them into another. This task still needs the Librarian to be done.

BUT, whining aside, what's good is that implementing of such a function makes a start, undoubtedly. Hopefully we'll see further chnages and improvements to the file system, like patch/multisample/song management, with all relative files affected being taken into account.

I trully hope Roland makes it even better. Seriously, this one is starting to give me hope.
Maybe we're one or two more update increments away before version 2.0.

cyclops, glad we got this solved, however, you still must understand that I described you the task and it's not that easy to accomplish.

Well, I don't have any technical knowledge about how things are done in software like the Fantom-G's, maybe it's as difficult as you say. But again, there should have been a way to organize things from the beggining, not add such a thing after software 4-5 updates.
But once it was added, we can hope for improvement, by any means possible.

cyclops, open your favorite DAW, and search for a feature that allows you to import a track with it's associated instrument and effects settings from one project into another. Can your DAW do this?

I've assigned bank select and program changes to the beginning of a phrase so it calls up patches before. Works well.

I certainly wouldn't want the patch to be recalled by default tho'. That would defeat the whole purpose of the huge phrase bin.

Hey Guys!

With all this discussion you forget about the good thing of this update. To me it means that Rolands still cares about G users and continues to support them. And the fact that it is only 1.50 means that 2.00 will also follow and will be a major update - that's my personal opinion.

BTW, thanks to Dan and all the guys involved in the new ConnectLive Project. The new patches sound really great and use the massive potential of the synth. I'm hungry for more of them and I wish they'd use presets instead of user patches as I have no more user patches left (thanks to Art and his great sound expansions). Maybe this would be another topic for a further update as the number of user patches should only be limited by the capacity of the used memory stick, right?

Art, I think this can be done in Cubase, at least as a workaround. There are track templates and project templates. With track templates you can set up an instrument track and fill it up with VST effects. You can make it load with all the bells and whistles alright.

Logic 9 added that ability too.

I would never expect a hardware synth to do this, however.

Yes, in GarageBand there is also a "workaround" when you save the instrument track as a preset/template, then create a new track with this preset in another project, then go back to the previous project to copy track data and then back to the target project to paste it. About the same time it would take on the Fantom-G with the Librarian.

The Audacity Works : "Maybe you should, you know, call Roland?"

I'll let you know how long it took for the support engineer to realize that there actually was a new release in the field ;)

The Audacity Works : "Wish I would've been mocked... and immortalized in a major workstation update. :("

Fanboys didn't get a single patch after their names, whiners got everything. I know it's unfair, but -you know- life's unfair :')

Hey vox…you great guy you :-)
Roland's too busy mocking forum's members.

We have not received an official word that Roland was mocking those guys.

Maybe it was….

1.Artistic inspiration?

2.A peace offering?

3.Roland’s way of saying….We hear you….now that I think about it, this one is the most likely. And it fits all partiers involved, including myself.

I was just joking when I suggested Roland might have made the sounds to mock them. They are smarter then that and I am sure they understand that it would just cause discord, that is the last thing they want.

So far, without having any facts, 3 is more likely than not the reason they did it.

And it really is a very cool thing…so all those guys should be grateful for it (even you Jim) :-)

Art is never just good or bad, only an expression of the artist’s feelings or point of view.

Jim (Jimknopf) may not like his sound. But it was only the artist’s intent and attempt to capture his perspective of Jim’s essence.

It’s Awesome!

Hey, guy’s!

If you have a video camera…how about showing off your skill with the new FG Connects Live in a youtube video? Let’s see how creative some of you guys can be.

Z. answer this for me. The live sets in the new update.... the first few (ac. piano, e. piano) have all those single patches in them (ok this is normal, this is how you make a live set!!!!), but when you play the keys only one of those single patches is actually triggered...

WHY IS THIS?

It is just another way to organize favorite patches in a category...that's all...no mystery.

Seamless switching of Live Sets only works when they're all Live Sets. Personally, I'm surprised there's a Single mode at all. It's largely unnecessary.
