Because I WORK with it and I have 90 unfinished songs in it right now. material for two albums, TV and Radio Spots and some Film music, some stuff for a documentary and some game music too. I hope you can grasp how much work it would be to re-write or export all those, let's say to Logic? A LOT of time and work with no pay.
Yes, I was **extremely stupid** to trust Roland, I agree... I will not make that mistake again.. and yes I have changed my way of working, I only use the Fantom G as a sound module now and sequence everything in Logic and also 'render' everything as audio to Logic so that I can get rid of the Fantom G as a workstation in the future. It is fine for a live synth, and as a sound module, but it is not something I would call a WORKstation, it's a HOBBYstation for those that have time for tedious workarounds and pushing 9 buttons instead of one mouseclick.
I can not rely on a company that does not fix its bugs.

Guys, you are being unfair to Art, V-CeeOh and Piaknowguy they have put a lot into this forum. I know you guys understand more than you let on so stop that.

I have been away a while too, but this has a reason! I simply don't have additional complaints or problems!
I recently accepted the G's bugs/inconsitencies/dumb-workaround/didos etc.!
It just stands near my other gear, quietly existing as the most expensive dust-catcher in history! I just don't use it anymore because everytime I start it up I will end up frustrated and unispired!
Well, nevertheless I expect the OS update to be released until 4.4.09!
If so, I will be delighted to explore the G once again without finding so many bugs/dumb things!
If NOT, this is the obvious proof that Roland doesn't care/is a very disregardful company/lost me as a customer!
I just want to express my envy for all the free sound packs, new features, bug fixes which are released regularly by Korg/Yamaha and other synth facories for their flagships!

I always respected your positive attitude and input, but I have a strong dislike for uncritical fanboy-attitudes: they don't help anyone, but just keep things, which should be clarified, in thick pseudo-happiness nebulas.
And what I regard as highly destructive and negative(!!!), are all the very obvious efforts to disturb or stop any, even constructive criticism, no matter how justified, long before it can play any positive role, by extreme demagogic misuse of the term "whining" and other unfair forms of discussion.
It would be very helpful if we all could discuss and find common interests TOWARDS Roland AND WITH Roland, not in a hostile way, but in a positive way, challenging the best Roland can do to develop a fine instrument to a certain maturity.
What fanboys in here do, is defending and supporting Roland in wrong ways of product support, and I can't see anything positive at all in that, for NO one involved.

Jim, let's suppose for the sake of the argument that Art will share your point of view. What would you want him say? "Jim, sell you G" "Jim, get a Y / K / C" ? You might get YET ANOTHER product you won't like AND blame Art for this. Is that what you really want? I doubt it.

Let me stay to the "Keep it or sell it" thing a bit.
Everyone that proposes that I should sell a keyboard that doesn't fit to my liking, should think twice, because when selling a product you get only a fraction of the price you payed when yo bought it.

No one is trying to stop criticism or whining... if you find something that you are unhappy with, it is quite alright to state it, even a few times if necessary... but to go on and on about it in a many threads as you can find in a forum that is NOT meant for customer support is nothing more than a waste of time and music/money making energy...
I believe we ALL can agree that we want an update that takes the sequencer to another and one that adds to its sound set (hoping for free SRX downloads, personally) and that sounds like unity to me...
but I, nor my money will wait on Roland to to fix its shortcomings... in the meantime why don't we use our time wisely and make music with the G or without it??? waiting on Roland will only piss you off everyday until the an update that fixes all of your wishes...

Personally, an unfinished G is STILL better than any HARDWARE workstation on the market (if you disagree, please go buy the other manufacturers products) BUT i am also VERY disappointed in the G's lack of support which has adversely affected the way I will look at Roland's future products...
Roland is definitely hurting their business by their lack of support for the G, but that their problem... maybe not now but when the GX comes out, it will show...

if Art shared my point of view (which he doesn't as far as I can see), we would completely peaceful set up a qualified list of bugs and necessary or useful update items (in contrast to the "wild" update and wishlists), discuss the list with users for a week, and send the results as Roland community to the development team, while adding our(!) view that the G development should have high priority before many other things.
UUps we have no contact to the development team and will get none, so we could just post the result here, together with a rough time frame we regard as required.
I don't think Roland would just fulfill such wishes. But I am sure they could regard it as kind of power user reference and - good will provided - could deal with it in some constructive way, instead of wasting many months without any proper G OS development.

your idea for a bug list is a great idea... maybe, just maybe that would lead to less whining and more justified criticism...
I also fear that this kind of list will lead to some ill informed person making a huge fuss over something that is not a BUG and refuses to believe otherwise, therefore calling out all the fanboys and whiners to take sides in an all out war that goes on for 17 pages... and when Art or any other mod closes the thread it will lead to calls of tyranny and censorship...
but i do believe it can be beneficial...

my goal is not to harm Roland, and I am well able to utter constructive critisism, without joining in complaints for (close to) nothing. I would even (and have done that more than once!) object people who misuse update points for bad talking. From my view the same is true for jessej (who strongly supported the G by hints and videos) and Quinnx (working on workarounds in a very conctructive way, but to help getting to a real solution), and many others...
But what I miss is a "docking point" for constructive update discussions, including a reliable connection for the results to reach Roland Japan, and the fear you point at is probably a reason we don't get it, but not a good one...

I'm afraid this forum has become a place which far too many use as a place where they think they can ventilate their dissatisfaction as much aas they can. In theory, they can (freedom of speech, constitutional rights and all that) but this is getting absurd.
It's the first day of the Frankfurt Messe and the level of discontentment is at its highest right now, but this has been going on and on since I got my G8 a little less than a year ago.
One thing before I leave for good: These comments about not buying Roland in the future. What's that?!?! A threat? Is anyone interested? I don't even believe it's true. I'm sure you'll be sitting there with a shining new Roland gear in a couple of years. Not that you would admit it in here of course...
Finally, to Art. You're doing a great job. Keep it up! I'm off to make some music.
