@ cix

You 're a lucky man paying $2245.

Here in the Netherlands/Europe the price excl. shipping will be approx. $3380 for a G6.

Maybe I'll better try to import it from USA or drive to Germany.

Anyone having experience with importing synths? I'll start a new thread about pricing...

Thanks Gareth. I hope those prices are not "American" dollars? If so, you should have gotten your G8 the day after NAMM! Haha (I made a funny). Nice selection of some rare gear though. Do you live anywhere near SAE? I was thinking about going to school there to further my education as I completed the "first part" in Nashville.
Hahah, yeah there is an SAE here in Brisbane. I considered going for awhile, but it's very expensive. I'm doing music production at QUT instead :-)
Gareth, not to be beating a dead horse but was your FG OS shipped without multisampling capability? How is the navigating compared to the FX in your opinion? Thanks
Dude it's no problem, ask me anything you want! But don't ask me to make comparisons to the X, because frankly i've never owned or even played one. I used to be a Korg user, I had a TR76 before this purchase. Coming from that instrument, navigation on the G is an absolute DREAM.

I haven't really looked into sampling my own stuff, or exploring the parameters with multisampling... *shrugs* I'm pretty sure there's no multisampling capability, but I think we all knew that.
All i've really had a chance to do is explore the preset sounds, and make basic arrangements (splits/layers etc.) for my band's songs.

Band practice was killer by the way. The G works very well in a "live" context.
I'm still getting used to using the sliders how I want them, and changing patches with my foot. but otherwise, i'm stoked. And I haven't even scratched the surface of the machine's capabilities!
I am very grateful Gareth!!
Thanks for your excellent demos. You produced them in an
record time!!!
No problem mate!
I'll make another short one very shortly, demoing some of the organs I missed, and the drums I missed altogether - I might show off some of my live set arrangements too just for the hell of it.

I wouldn't try that. For starters, the US price doesn't include the 19% sales tax/VAT/BTW that we pay in the Netherlands. A package that large will definitely get noticed by customs. If you do the sensible thing and have it shipped by courier, they will charge you for the VAT and associated 'handling' cost. It's also possible that you will be charged an additional fine and for certain items there can be import duties in addition to just VAT. I'm talking from experience here, not theory.

Shipping cost will also be fairly significant for an item that large and heavy.

Further, you won't be able to have your synth serviced by Roland Benelux/Central Europe. That is, you won't have warranty. They may perhaps service it, but they will charge you for that even within the warranty period.

So far I believe all published prices are the same all over Europe. Shops are simply advertising the minimum allowed price that Roland imposes upon their products (as far as advertising that price is concerned). You may be able to get a slightly better deal (although not very likely so early) but you will have to email or call them to get it.

@piaknowguy

I will exactly name the patches on the G, which I refer to as being outdated in a negative way, soon as my G is here. Up to now I heard a mixed bag of (from my view) fine new, fine old, and bad old sounds from the G. That problem was already quite prominent on the X where I found at least half of the onboard patches belonging to the category 'hear once - forget at once'.

As I said, my general objection is not 'old' versus 'new'. But what I like from the 70s/80s/90s sounds are definitely not those 80% of sounds of the first 80s/90s ROMplers and ROM synth generations with their cheap plastic sounds.

Not that some of them couldn't get cult status for some people. There's even some who cherish those plastic beeps from old Casios. And Joe Zawinul kept a Korg M1 in in his rig as long as he lived, because he liked exactly some of those small samples (after tweaking them a bit).

But I think that only *very* *few* sounds fit into that category (small sample but has 'something'). The majority of that kind of sounds is just for the trash can for my ears, and I already thought so when I heard them first and not only now. The more unbelievable I find it how long Roland (and some other brands) keep such stuff. I know some more keyboarders who stronly dislike all those "wannabe" sounds which obviously pretend to be something which they aren't (I'm not at all talking of EPianos alone here, but of all categories).

Still I'm not interested in forcing my view upon others. So I proposed a while ago, that Roland should open a password protected registered users feedback page for sounds, where keyboarders could evaluate sounds they like or dislike. Perhaps that way it would become clearer where many of us meet in their evaluation of 'crappy sounds', and where they don't.

I will come back to this matter with my G at hand ... ;-)

Fair enough! I really like the idea of a Roland 'feedback' page. Give the people what they want 'sound-wise'. Let's just hope that Roland's keyboards don't come back sounding like 'Casios'!!! LOL

Cheers! =)

$2500?!?!? Ha. That's a steal. RMC Audio is selling them for almost $400 less than that. (Not affiliated with them in any way).

Sweetwater stating a delivery date of this Thursday (April 24) is good news. That's info you can pretty much trust. As far as this RMC Audio having a price $400 lower than Sweetwater, first of all, the price you see on Sweetwater's web site is MAP (minimum advertised price). Notice you see no price on the RMC site.

Most likely Sweetwater will discount a bit from MAP, but not much. The "G" looks to be a hot item for its initial release cycle.

We go through this with every new product. Some questionable internet retailer comes along with a lowball price. Well, you get what you pay for. They can claim anything once they've got your money. How many people have we seen crying the blues with a credit card billed for a synthesizer which they wind up not receiving for weeks or even months after the reputable dealers have them (i.e. Sweetwater)? In short, as always, you get what you pay for and if it looks to good to be true....

BTW, Sweetwater's G6 page still states..."expected to begin arriving in May."

Info for Germans: It seems Germany is a bit late. Fantom G preorders in Germany are delivered around April 30, Wednesday next week "plus minus two days", instead of April 22nd as thought so far (info from Roland Germany).

Well, it's just another nice instrument, so one week earlier or later is no big deal ...

@ Arjan,

I think you live in Holland too... Can you give me the name of your dealer? Maybe he will give an extra discount when selling 2 pcs or more.

Nog meer zuinige Hollanders? Dan vormen we een inkoopcombinatie ... ;)

I'm sorry for my Dutch joke ;)

Hi SH1000,

I get my stuff from various places (FeedBack, Musik Produktiv, Thomann, direct import), although there is one local small dealer that I favour somewhat over the others mentioned. If you want you can send me an email at
