Hi everybody,
I want to use my Fantom G to play 90s songs. Really simple songs similar to this:

However, I am facing a few challenges:
1) I want to rely on Fantom G's internal phrases for pop music rhythms but I cant find classic, simple pop rhythms despite hours of going through the list of phrases!! I am not good at writing patterns myself either. Are there any websites where people shared their pop phrases? I just want simple rhythm patterns such as the ones in the video above. Nothing fancy!
2) In my old yamaha, there were "Fills" in the patterns. You could use those to connect two sections of a song. In Fantom G, there are also phrases named "...fill" and they sound like a fill. However, if I play them in "Rhythm Pattern" mode, the fill keeps playing forever. I just want it to play once and then move to another rhythm pattern. How can this be achieved?
Thanks.

I think you are looking for something like the Roland GW-8 or BK-5. There you get all the patterns and styles you can want for pop/rock songs with automated accompaniment. The rythem patterns of the Fantom G have to be selected by hand afaik. You can select only if they should be played once or forever but cannot chain them.
You can record of course midi phrases from something like the Yamaha QY-100 or any other gear and make your own pattern library. You can also record pieces from your favourite MIDI files and make them into patterns that you access via your Fantoms pads. But I know of not to many libraries.
The easiest way to add this feature to a Fantom G is to buy a Yamaha QY-100 and slave it to the Fantom G via MIDI and Audio In.
The sinevibe libraries http://www.loopbased.com/ambient-chillo ... -pack.html also include many rythem patterns who are very useful, but not that much Pop/Rock stuff.
I am working on some patterns to play Phil Collins 'In the Air Tonight' using the pads, but they are not ready yet.
Have fun!

Get yourself a "Roland BK7-m", plug it in via MIDI, and you're OK.

Interesting. We pay lots of money for the Fantom and I love the instrument. But the built in rhythm patterns are absolutely useless. Like seriously useless... Sorry for the rant.
Re: 90s Pop with Fantom G...
The Fantom was never ment to be a "Yamaha Tyros" or a "Roland G70". If you want an "entertainment keyboard", the Fantom is not right for you. As a synth/workstation it is still one of the best.

Does anybody know a good website where I can download common midi loops for pop music? I am happy to pay some money to get a package of loops, just not several hundred pounds. Thanks.

THe Fantom G is capable of doing what you require but you will have to spend (a lot of) time programming it ... I have managed to put a RPS version of Sledghammer into the G7 and it sound great, but it took some time. It is worth spending the time to program the phrases, as you get better at it it becomes quicker and easier. With RPS you can ad lib a song in real time.. which can be a lot of fun on stage ! Definatly worth spending some time IMHO!
