i agree with piaknowguy. the reason why i hate fatar keybed, etc is just that. you get what you pay for. fatar is probably the best controller keybed out there for the computer musician and even those are imho not anywhere close to the level of roland's PHA2/PHA3 keybed.
i too recommend wat paulof did with using a digital piano as your keybed and slaving your G6. that way not only do you have a nice 88 weighted keybed, you also have a nice piano sound to use (and not have to use up polyphony either on the FG's tone generator).
i think for now this is the best way.
G6 + 88 key weighted controller?
Re: G6 + 88 key weighted controller?
I think you guys need to consider the environment and usage. I'm not a professional musician and I don't work in a professional studio... heck, I don't work in a studio at all, I'm a software developer!
I like all the features of the Gx series, with the integrated sequencer, and crap load of sounds, and the goal is to LOWER my costs, not increase them! Remember, I'm coming from the realm of upgrading from a *20 year old* synth to play at home.
I understand what you're saying about you get what you pay for. I work on my own cars, and when I need a tool that will be used often, I get a good one. But when I have a one time job, or something that is very rarely used, I get the cheap one.
I guess the gist of my question is if I would be missing out on any features or functions by this setup, as opposed to getting the G8.

Re: G6 + 88 key weighted controller?
from another car guy (me) using snap-on and facom tools in my little garage, i still think you should buy a good keybed and just keep it forever vs buy a cheezo, then buy another one later on thinking about wat we told you already. :p
Re: G6 + 88 key weighted controller?
I still have my crap Harbor Freight transmission lift, so there!

Re: G6 + 88 key weighted controller?
Maybe I am missing something, but I think the answer to your question is simple. The G6 and G8 are identical from a sound and function point of view. The only difference is number of keys and the type of keys. So get any 88 key board with MIDI output, that is within your budget, and that you find playable and go with it.
Re: G6 + 88 key weighted controller?
That's the answer I'm looking for. I just wanted to make sure that if I did this, I wasn't missing any features.
