Re-sampling - Write / Save does not route to DIMM

Post by Nickle Tech »

Hey guys, looking for some help here. I've got a 1GB DIMM loaded in my FG8 and according to the system information it's 97% free (970MB).. basically unused. When I look at the system storage it's about 70% used. I've created a song (2 minutes) to which I wanted to Re-Sample to my DIMM but can't quite figure it out. After Re-sample I attempt to Save the sample and it tells me there's not enough storage. I've alternatively used the "Write" button to do the same thing with the same results.

What am I missing here? I was under the impression that anything dealing with a user sample, or Re-sample would be written to the DIMM and not internal storage. I'm assuming that I'm doing something wrong...

I tried to find some sort of system setting that allowed you to flip the write assignment to sample RAM vs. storage but can't seem to find it.

I appreciate your response in advance.

Please read page 7 of the micro manual to understand the difference in sample RAM and storage memory:

Yup, been there already just to confirm I wasn't missing anything. So I guess the simple question is - Shouldn't Resampling output files route to the "Sample RAM" / 1GB DIMM?

That's not happening and I'm trying to figure out why.

Strange you say you read the micro manual... it's clearly stated that RAM is only for temporary sample playback/recording. The internal memory or USB drive is where they are stored.

"Please note that without expanded sample RAM and USB flash drive, there may be not sufficient space for you to record and export your song."

Is this not an indication that when exporting a song as audio through Re-sampling that the export utilizes Sample Ram, even if in a temporary state?

My issue was that even though I've got an 8GB USB Drive and 1GB worth of Sample RAM - when I tried to export my song it told me there was insufficient memory. I had to go into internal storage and delete most of the factory loaded samples in order to create space for the WRITE.

Artemiy, I'm sure there's something I'm missing here so I apologize if this seems obvious. I have read through your Micro Manual a few times along with the standard manual but just can't figure it out.

Press your MENU button.

Select SYSTEM[F2].

Select INFO[F4].

'Group/Down' to 'Memory Info'.

There are three Memory options/modes available on the Fantom.
SAMPLE = Temporary
User = Permanant
USB Memory = Permanant

The Fantom G USER memory is a permanant internal memory which allows one to store up to 50MB of data.

The SAMPLE memory allows you to store a sample library greater than the 32MB of internal RAM with the aid of additional DIMM memory. (your 1000 MB DIMM module) This is volatile memory and is only used when the keyboard is powered ON.

USB memory is non-volatile memory which allows you to store your SAMPLE memory.

You cannot store a Project with more than 50MB of Samples internally. You must save the Project to a USB memory stick.

Note - OS Version 1.5 uses 47MB (94%) of the available Internal memory.

Hope that helps.

Got it, so the likely fix here is to save my Project to the USB drive which will then route any subsequent Audio exports to that project file.

Thanks piaknowguy.
