cf. is an abbreviation for the Latin verb confer, which means "bring together" or "compare with" in English.

In other words, cf. is telling you to look at the page that is mentioned in the next line of the manual.

P.S. This is just one of many Latin Abbreviations that are often used. N.B., you almost have to be a Ph.D. to understand the M.O. of authors who use them, i.e. some of these abbreviations can be quite confusing, e.g. ibid., q.v., op. cit., et al. and etc.

Well, my friend, no one can know everything. You were smart enough to ask for an answer that you did not know. That makes you more intelligent than most.

Remember, there are people here who like to be helpful…

I'm not so sure that picture captured my 'best side'. On the other hand, I find this to be a very flattering picture of you and Artemiy, Grammar! . . . Or is that Artemiy and you . . . Whatever! Boy, am I ever glad that I don't have to worry about all of the grammar issues in this forum! I'll leave it to the professionals . . . or is that 'leave them to the professionals?
