Baba O'Riley

Post by firstlovedan »

Can anyone give me a tip on this? I perform Baba O'Riley as a one man band with my sequenced part. I sequenced the beginning arpeggio with these notes sped up.. E,E (8th notes) B,C#,B,C# (16th) E,E,B,B (8th) repeat. That pretty much nails it, but now I need to play it with a live band who cannot follow a track. Is there a way play assign these notes to a pad, or note?
Back in the old days I just used a delay to repeat each note once and play E,B,highE over and over, but it's not as realistic. I need to get this soon and would really appreciate any pointers! Blessings and Music, firstlovedan

is it the whole band that cannot follow it or just the drummer? I've only seen two ways that this song has been done live and that's with the drummer playing to the sequence via headphones or just without anything at all i.e. going for broke! The latter is usually quite embarrassing as the drummer will go out of time with sequence and the rest of the band will land incorrectly on the "Don't Cry..' section. I saw this happen and it resulted in the singer being knocked out of time with the sequence on that section...he did his best to ignore the timing issue but it sounded terrible!

I'm not sure whether you're just better off using RPS to trigger with a key those all important sections that need to be in time with the band, those sections being the one I mentioned above and of course the later section which starts with the vocals singing "They're all wasted..."

That's the easiest way . . . I play it this way as well, only I sing it an octave higher.

Oh Yeah . . . Did I mention that I tend to play it about half that speed?
