Re: Headphones
If you're looking for accuracy, avoid closed-back headphones. They're great for listening, or for making sure people in the same room can sleep, but mixes made on them are inconsistent at best.
I use Sennheiser HD580s for mixing, Fostex T40s for tracking vocals (they provide good coverage and sound a bit dull so the singer projects more), and Sony HDR7506es for messing around.
The Sennheisers are great because you can swap out parts forever. Had 'em for over a decade, and replaced the cable, and top cushion for a reasonable price.

Re: Headphones
I have Sennheiser's HD-212 Pro since 2003 and they are just GREAT, relatively cheap (50 €) and confortable enough to be used continuously for hours without any disconfort.
Re: Headphones
I use sony 7506's & akg 270's
I just ordered replace ear pads for the sony's ( I have 4 pair).
While, I dont just about everything through headphones and been very successful at time.
Mixing is sometimes problematic, I tend to over exaggerate under headphones, the mix can be confusing with too much bass.
Be sure to listen to your material in as many places on as many monitoring system as possible.

Re: Headphones
I use Sennheiser 280pro and Shure SH840.
Open or semi open will be a better option for your mixing down projects. But all varies on how well you get to know each headphones and how it translate to your boom box or sound system or even that TV monitor if your doing some video project.
If I'm just mixing sound from my FG, the Shure dent to translate well for me for now but am looking in to getting that open or semi open headphones for breathable listening and mixing.

Re: Headphones
sennheiser hd 650. expensive but tell it how it is 8)
Re: Headphones
Hi os2rm !
- Sennheiser
- Audio Technica
- AKG
Flat frequency response headphones are very common for mixing and recording. Yet, you cannot get a definite clean and final mix with cans, but close enough when you make those final adjustments in a treated room, through a pair of near field reference monitors.

Re: Headphones
Would highly recommend AKG K271 studio monitor.
Re: Headphones
I also own an AKG K271 studio.
It's really great, but you must know it's a closed model.

Re: Headphones
AKG's are great, i use k141mkII and like 'em.... but at work i have that beyerdynamic dt 990.... they're really great and feels like you listewn through monitors, not the cans... maybe a bit too heavy, but very comfortable and sound quality is really great.... have a look at beyerdynamic.... i used akg k-240 ... or 270 (can't remember) and they were really good as well ... AKG is one of my favourites ... i like their mics and headphones, but from now headphones = beyerdynamic
