and, since the songs save changes to a patch without taking up user patch space, that gives me more than enough room, since most tweeks are minor to fit the sound of a tune and not worthy to creat a patch out of anyway.

Yes, this is a solution, like better than nothing. But if you switch to another Studio set, the edited version will be lost and the song won't play properly unless you go back to the song position where the SysEx data is stored.

I also have the Motif XS, Korg M3 and Fantom G7, they are all good at what they are designed to do. The methods by which you achieve your goals however differ slightly . I find that songs are easier to produce and edit with the Motif, the G7 sounds are easier to manipulate. The M3 is a swine when trying to find favourite sounds unless you transfer them to a separate bank. Karma is an over-rated function for me.
I don't believe there is a 'best' one but there's one that I feel more comfortable with and that's the Motif purely because it's the easiest (for me) to multitrack a song using patterns/phrases, string them together then transfer to a song where I can add even more tracks.
They are all easy to connect to a PC and to their respective editing software however the Fantom does have the edge here for ease of editing and incidentally for use with a DAW.
Just my 2 cents worth

well for me i love my fantom g and my m3 .I love the motif xs but to me when it comes to tweak the G is way easier .Sound thats hard cause each one has it own unqiue sound .To me the G beats both when it comes to synths i like also like the Eps in G .The Motif strings are great and so are the guitars .M3 has nice Eps and strings as well .I love there hits as well. But to me i prefer the G and the M3 cause they really sound great in a mix down .

i like the sound of the MOTIF when you push it off a table. :D haha. jk.

i think they sound pretty good and a pretty complete system with the cubase and all. i think one can play with it for a long while and enjoy it.

the only reason why i haven't bought one is because yamaha instruments (to me) lack character. it's like a toyota of cars. good and reliable but closer to an appliance than an instrument.

Unlike Toyota, at least Yamaha stops when you want it to ... :) I trust Yammi pedals more than ToMoCo ...

Maybe an indicator of the popularity of the 3 workstations is how many second hand ones are for sale on Ebay
M3 - usually 2 or 3 at any one time
FG - usually 1 or 2
Motif XS - rarely

My Toyota is a great car - never had any problems with it.

Whoever has a problem with Toyota has not driven a Supra.

Here are the latest #'s.

Motif XS - 1

Fantom G - 3

Both(Neither) - 6

Not including the wonderful sound of Motif XS hitting the floor, it looks like the G is finally taking an expected lead.

That tells me that 3 times as many people want to get rid of their FG than their Motif

Maybe you misunderstood.

Those are a tally of positive remarks.

No, I was saying how more people were selling their FGs than Motifs.
Sorry - we were not talking about the same subject

I stand corrected, it was me who was confused!

I'd like to see the reasons why people sold their board, whether it was a G, XS, or M3. The results could be interesting, but I would almost bet they are as boring as I needed the cash or I ran out of space.

I actually sold my g6 on ebay so I could buy a g7.

I think that it's not fair to just look at how many are being sold, but how many are being bought. I mean you've got to consider that.... In order for a FG to be sold, it's got to be bought. It would be different if they were just on sale, but not sold.

ya feel me?

It's the same discussion every time a new model emerges. :)

Personally, as a perfectly happy Fantom X6 owner with 4 srx cards, I'm waiting for that next big breakthrough! It sure wasn't the G. (no pun intended) :)

Good point Apex and it brings us right back to question at hand - which sounds better?
