who here thinks the X8 sounds better then the G8 ?

Post by keys88_ »

Hi to all ...
I just put up a G8 and after 2HR of playing with the patches Im thing the X8 has better guitar and bass and synth sounds...they sound biger in the X8 then the G8..
The G8 sound small and the acc guitars are not as good as the X8 ...am i the only one here thinking this ???
Do i need to pick up a roland xr rack to get back what im missing in the G8 ???
Whats up with roland ..thing they can put more sounds in the rom and keep them sounding big and fat ..i do fine other good thing about the G8 but the patch are noy one of them !!!

Sorry. I do not agree that the X8 sounds better, just different! (I own the X8, XR, G8 and 10 SRX boards) I tend to make comparisons often when working with these instruments. The G8 wins hands-down when multitracking patches with their own dedicated PFX.

Cheers!

In my country Roland XP30 was very popular keyboard. And I know some people who say that XP30 sounds much better than Fantom G.
What is that?
It is personal taste.
But I know something for shure.Ive tryed to recreate some nice patches from XP30 and i did it.And result of that was. These two keyboards sounds the same when you have the same patch on both.
For me there is no way Fantom X can sound better or XP30 or any Roland. But there is something.Fantom X can produce more Effects in Live mode and because of that Fantom X can have sme nice Live sets that Fantom G will never have except if you play in Studio mode.

+1
Fantom G does lack waveforms from : (I have an X8 and G7)
1) stock Fantom X
2) Best of SRX

Anyhow, why would Roland put all best of SRX in the Fantom G ?
SRX and Fantom XR are still sold.

Its down to the programming. In terms of sonic capability, the G is better - I had both an X6 and now the G6 and frequency wise the G has better top and bottom end - this might mean that some people perceive it as a lack of mid range punch. Take time to program and it sounds great!

The Fantom G Patches uses has only ONE insert FX per patch.

Is is possible, that the Fantom X patches could use up to 3 FX per Patch?

So for example it is not possible to do the following things in Single and Live-Mode:

I want to have Organ with Leslie AND Distortion => not Possible
I want to have a Epiano with Chorus und EQ => Not Possible
I want to have a Gutar with Chorus and compression => not possible.

That could explain why a single Sound at the fantom x sounds sometimes "better".
By the Way: Motif ES and XS hat got 3FX (2 Inserts+1 EQ) per patch for 8 Sounds at the same time!

To me its a very hard Limitation to have only one Insert per Sound, while 15 FX´s are sleeping.

keys88,

"Do i need to pick up a roland xr rack to get back what im missing in the G8 ???"

I don't think the members here should decide that for you. If you like the X more than the G, get it.

"The G8 sound small and the acc guitars are not as good as the X8 ...am i the only one here thinking this ???"

What difference does it make? If you were the only one, it doesn't mean that you're wrong or anything. It's a matter of opinion.
I don't want to be rude, but this is one of many threads that I simply don't understand. Too many seem to be too interested in what others think, as if they need an excuse for god knows what. Suggestions for 2010:

1. Trust your OWN ears.
2. Make sure you get the gear you find most likely to fulfill your needs.
3. After you've made your purchase, MAKE MUSIC and DON'T COMPARE your new gear to anything else unless you're not satisfied with it. If you're not satisfied, you didn't read #2.

A Happy New Musical Year to all of you!

Im sure its possible but then you would have the problem that if you used any other of the 15 to develope a patch in single mode..
These patches are then useless in studio mode or live becuase you can never recall them.
And if you develope your patches in that way, studio mode would become un-usable because you would have no solid patch library for this mode.

As far as compairing X>G I Feel they are both sonicaly capable of reproducing each sound if you know what your doing.
Out of the box they perform differently because this is how they where made.

To this I respond - Do not compare 'Performance' mode on the 'X' to 'Live' mode on the 'G'! If you want to make a true comparison, it should be to the 'G's 'Studio' mode, in which each of those scenarios is possible! On the flip-side, the 'X' does not even have a 'Live' mode, and cannot layer and switch effects-laden patches with the smoothness that the 'G' can!

I am one of the Fantom X's biggest fans!! I am also a huge fan of the Fantom G!! There is nothing wrong with making comparisons. Let just make sure that we are comparing 'apples to apples'! =)

fismoll7, looks like you are not able to see beyond your own arms... Seriously, posts like yours sometimes drive me nuts.

The G has 16 PFX for 16 parts, plus 2 MFX and chorus/delay and reverb on top of them. So you can have PFX -> MFX -> chorus/delay -> reverb. And yes this means you can have distortion -> leslie or whatever else you want.

NO!
You still can´t use 2 Inserts for one Sound in Live- and Single-Mode! And that´s the relevant mode for playing live!
It is also impossible to use EQ +1 Inserts for one part. However you describe it, it is STILL is a very big limitation!

And Song-Mode doesnt´help, because you can have only 50 Songs per project. You are forced to load another project during a gig when you have more than 50 Songs in one Band.

But I´m sure you will delete or lock this message like you always do, when someone say that the fantom G needs a lot of workarounds and has some shortcomings. I think it´s time for you to block me. What Do You think?

Long live censorship.

Fismoll7. I would suggest that you try showing your host a little more respect! When you respond like this, you just end up displaying an infantile demeanor to the entire forum community. - PiaKnowGuy
