Hooking up IPOD Touch to Fantom

Post by awurtele »

Would someone kindly tell me what type of cabling is needed to hook up an IPOD touch to the Fantom? If anyone has a picture of what the cables look like that would be wonderful. The recommended manufacturer would also be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

You need a stereo mini jack to dual mono jack cable.

On a related note, if I wanted to hook up my Mac Pro's sound output (which is currently outputting to external computer speakers) to my Fantom G, could I set it up like this?.......:

Step 1. Attach a mini stereo to dual mini stereo splitter to the Mac Pro's audio output jack.
Step 2. Attach one of the splitter outputs to the computer speakers I'm currently using.
Step 3. Attach the other splitter output to my Fantom G's LINE L/R audio inputs with the stereo mini jack to dual mono jack cable mentioned in the previous post?

I'm thinking that way, I can use my Mac Pro's sound output without having to switch outputs back and forth (from an output directed to my Fantom G, to an output directed to the computer speakers). Otherwise, if I set up a separate connection from the Mac Pro to the Fantom (say, through the audio output on the FRONT of the Mac Pro), then I'd have to switch the Mac Pro's audio output every time I want to use it with the Fantom.

Is all that correct?

canadave, you an set up ANY source as in my YouTube tutorial. With a Mac, though, I'd use USB audio instead of analog cables.

Oh...yes, USB audio would be preferable I suppose. How exactly would I go about doing that if I wanted to sample a short WAV file stored on the Mac Pro?

I have the USB cable hooked up already....I know I'd go to SAMPLING and choose "USB Audio" as the source. But then how does that work...do I just hit "Play" on iTunes or something, and the WAV file gets sampled?

Sorry, I'm a complete novice at sampling. I mean I get the concept and all, but never really done it before.

In my YouTube tutorial, you can see how it's hooked up, the only thing in your case is you'd set the input to USB AUDIO. Then you play anything from your Mac and it'll get into the G. You can go to SAMPLING, choose "Sampling" and record the audio.

And the Mac Pro automagically knows to send the played audio file's audio over the USB cable to the Fantom, eh? Amazing :)) Thanks!

No, you need to first set the G as your default output in System Preferences on your Mac.

Oh...lol!

Yes, but that's what I was talking about earlier. I'd rather not have to go into the System Preferences and adjust the audio output destination to be the G.

Would the solution I proposed earlier work, in terms of getting audio from the Mac Pro to the G's sampler WITHOUT having to adjust the audio output destination in System Preferences? I'm pretty sure it would "work" in the sense that audio would make it from the Mac Pro to the G in that setup, but I'm just not sure how "clean" the audio signal would be, after going through two splitters....

In this case, you set the output destination in the application itself, in it's preferences.

Canadave-
Automagically?

Automagically??

AUTOMAGICALLY???

Hmmm…I like it, but the Organization of Worldwide Linguistic Specialists has strict rules forbidding the invention of new words. The English language already has far too many words.

I will let you slide on this one, Canadave, but be warned…from now on…a hairless baby wombat will be watching you. (Except during naptime, of course)
