Transferring Fantom X sequences into the G

Post by Scotte »

Hi all, new here. Just got a G. I have over 300 sequences I use live on the X and i'm wondering exactly how to get them into the G. I read on previous post that it's easy via a midi file something or other. I'm an idiot. I need to know exactly what to do...like step by step...couldn't find anything in the manual that made sense. help! and thanks

okay, sorry about this...I got hasty and didn't do the digging first. my apologies. hey, I was a little excited! I love the new sounds...I am really jazzed. I play professionally four nights a week and was so ready for fresh sounds and to be excited again.
Anyway, here's what I did. Pull up a song (sequence) on your X. Then hit save, and select the option to save as a "SMF". Then it gives you the option to select "format1"...choose that. Then go ahead and hit "Save as SMF". Okay, then I connected to the laptop (via usb) and copied the newly saved sequences (xyz.mid) to the desktop (or you can create a new folder to place them in. Then I usb'd the new G to the laptop. Next, hit the menu button and selected "USB Storage"...that connects the G to the laptop and the little window pops up and you choose "open folder to view files". A new window opens...select FantomG.PRG. then select SEQ, then SMF. Now drag or copy your newly converted midi file in there. Now go back to the G and go to SMF list after exiting (twice, or you'll just re-connect to the computer).
Now, the fun starts trying to match up the sounds! hope this helps someone.

Hi Scotte, I love just outside of Detroit and play every weekend with my 1 man show. I have been using an Ensoniq SD-1 keyboard since 1992(!) and it hasn't failed me yet. I bought a Fantom x-6 about 2 years ago and still am not using it onstage. Do you know where i can buy finished sequences for my Fantom? Any help would be appreciated. I have been using about 250 sequences i made for the SD-1 and i am getting depressed thinking I have to create all new ones. I don't know if I'm up for that anymore. Anyway, any help would be appreciated. I did download about 1000 SMF songs, and some are very good, but I can't edit them in the Fantom. It just won;t let me. Thanks for reading. Jerry Somers.

You should be able to edit SMF files in the Fantom X. I do it all the time in the G.
I don't remember the X being any more difficult...someone else might be able to confirm that...

It is 10 times easier when it is midi format 1 instead of 0, however.

Hmm...send me one, and I will be glad to look at it for you, anyway.

Madahorn,
Hello and thank-you for responding. I will gladly send you one of the files but please be patient and allow me a few days to send it. I am preparing for a New Years Eve gig and also a wedding reception on Jan.2...can you imagine??
Again, thanks a bunch for your generosity. A beacon in the dark you are!
Jerry Somers.
