If Roland had made a convincing ARX version of this synth (and a few others) I might have gone G and saved myself some serious $$$ ...

Image

In retrospect, I'm glad they didn't ... JP-8 is gorgeous in every way, and it took a real leap of faith to get one (including a 10-hour drive each way and lots of $$$)

What couldn't be duplicated or even approximated with Fan-G/ARX is the control surface that is such an essential part of the EXPERIENCE ...

Most importantly, the sound is unbelievable ... smooth, silky, fat, powerful ... and ALIVE ... (moreso than even V-Synth -- which I place above Fantoms for pure sonic goodness) and it's quite nice but not so good in transition (i.e. adjusting params) ... where the JP-8s silky smoothness stays intact and doesn't explode into a digital mosaic, which can be an intersting effect but not as a mainstay ... ) So easy on the ears ... i.e. no "digital fatigue" ...

BTW ... Still-loved and used-daily Fan-X is visible at bottom of frame ...

many years ago when i was playing in bands in the late eighties early nineties i had a jp6 and a korg polysix (which had some great sounds on it) we had some interest from the major labels in new york ( im from england ) so i was given the task of getting rid of those 2 plus a dx7 to one keyboard plus the d50 i already had. i did it all on a yamaha sy77 and the sounds i programmed were virtually the same and in some insatnces better than the analogue originals (the members of the band couldn't tell the difference) the jp and the poly have about 6 types of really excellent sounds ( besides the endless variation on filter sweeps ) and the d50 was the main keyboard i used at the time by far. today the g or x or any modern sample based keyboard can do all these sounds with greater subtlety and intricacy that these old babes due to the greater amount of detail available ( more lfos more complex envelopes etc.) would i love my jp6 and polysix back you bet! and a jp8 the best looking synth ever ? defo!! would i ever use them to make muisc now? no. but they are great to look at and mess around with! ps i havent programmed one sound on the g yet as i havent got the time to and so far i have always found a preset that is just right. i have looked into the the sound structure and the possibillities of 4 oscillators loads of individual envelopes lfos and step lfo is endless. the pulsating sounds on the g, could any of the keyboards i mentioned above do them? no. well maybe if you middied them all together lol

Art,

A word of support to you...
No-one better than you knows user's history and behavior...

People usually don't know/care for the work behind this kind of initiative, and tend to post lightly without measuring consequences, this is - the fact that someones posts 1000 times that FX routing is wrong (from his point of view) is not going to make the change happen.
This just spends other reader's time and wins contempt from those of us who want to learn and share something. This is worst than wining, and sometimes makes threads unreadable and in a short time, users pass through user A or B posts without reading them (I do that).
If you asked him politely to stop annoying other users by insisting on a recurring point of view, and he ignored you than you're probably right.

It's easy to say "I would not ban him" when looking from the outside.

The forum is a useful resource and It's not easy to keep things sane when someone paid for a supposedly deceiving (not my case) product, whether they are right or wrong, they will look for somewhere to dump complaints and fury, even before asking for a solution.

Regards,
Peace you all...

i see where youre coming from luis, but i think a better alternative to the whole situation would have been for them to have a difference of opinion. agree to disagree so to speak. artemy couldnt say anything other than the fx system is great and exactly how it was designed to be. regardless of the fact that a disproportionate number of roland customers hate it. and shakil couldnt stop talking about the "bug" which was not a "bug" but just a bad choice for roland engineers (just my opinion) to stick the customer with after all we've been through with this board.

they both went overboard. thats all. i like both of them very much and they both contribute too much to the site to be absent.

hopefully roland will change their fx structure to something a little more user friendly to all of us. notice i didnt say FIX it. just change it or add sensible functionality to it. i dont agree with amputating an arm because your finger hurts if you know what i mean, and thats what i think this fx routing system does.

phil, you should read what misuspita wrote in the last reply:
you had your answer from Dan himself, there is nothing wrong with the FX, they work as they are supposed to work, nothing wrong here.

If you don't believe me, listen to what the official Roland representative said to you. Patch MFX are part of the patches themselves, detaching them would BREAK 100% of what's new and musician-friendly in the Fantom-G. Enough on this, please.

maybe you missed the part where i said it wasnt a bug just a bad choice by roland. i just said i didnt like it and a large number of other roland customers dont either. i didnt say it was broke. just that its not that great to me. you have a different opinion. thats all.

you dont have to parrot dan or any other users remarks. i know what dan said, all im saying is i dont like it.

Okay -- I didn't go through this entire post, so someone probably already beat me to it -- but maybe ARX 06 and 07 will be the "Crab Cakes" and "Inflatable Girl Dinosaur" instruments.

:)

Sammy

P.S. Everyone who posted angry responses to Artemiy's incredibly funny original post, please -- take a vacation! We all need a good laugh from time to time...

:) :) :D

I didn't find it that funny, actually ...

In fact, I find it borderline offensive mainly because the OP is making a joke out of something that he probably has very little experience with/understanding of what people go through -- and it's more than trannies -- who find themselves identifying with a rainbow flag ...

Yeah, it's easy to make light of "she males" and most people won't bother to defend them ... But I think you should walk a tough mile in their high-heel shoes before you start to make easy jokes ...

Think about this ... The impulse must be pretty strong for "she males" to dress up and live like that -- i.e. it's part of their nature -- if they are willing to endure the constant crap they probably have to put up with because of it ...

I agree with misuspita, even though I don't feel the urge to walk around naked...

However, this is a forum for Roland users. Roland makes musical instruments. What has been discussed here the past few days has nothing to do with that. Please, Art, lock this thread.

phil:

My goodness, but if you don't like it so much, why in the world did your purchase the Fantom-G? Saying your negative opinion once is fine. But whining in every second post like shakil did would be totally stupid nonsense which simply spams the forums.

misuspita:

Good point and I agree with it. Some people think about hurting gay and transgender people's feelings, but NONE , for some reason, thinks about how the they hurt MY feelings!

I think everyone has made many good conclusions from this discussions, and I proclaim it over.
