RPS vs. Rhythm Patterns
RPS vs. Rhythm Patterns
In essence, what's the difference between RPS and Rhytm Patterns? They seem to be interchangeable.
Re: RPS vs. Rhythm Patterns
iggymusic... they are completely different.
Rhythm Patterns are... well rhythm patterns.. where you record drum or percussion tracks to be used for supplying rhythms your perforamce.
RPS (realtime phrase sequence) is a whole different animal. An RPS can have as many channels as you want. You could have a complete section of your song, drums, bass, keys, synth.. etc as RPS. RPS could have a single part also, then it will behave like a Rhythm Pattern. RPS used to be more powerful in Fantom X, but the recent update (1.3) brought some of it to Fantom G as well.

Re: RPS vs. Rhythm Patterns
so, rhythm patterns are not mulititimbral?
Re: RPS vs. Rhythm Patterns
shakil: what exactly does the Fantom-X have in the RPS area that the Fantom-G doesn't? Now that the function has been added to the keys as well, the only serious thing that is missing for me is a dedicated RPS button.
Re: RPS vs. Rhythm Patterns
hmmm... on FantomX, you could have RPS on keys and pads independtly. Also, you could have any key for 'RPS stop' key, and you could have more than 16 RPSs on the keyboard.
Now, the only option added is to use the keyboard for RPS on white keys or black keys, the same RPS that are selected on PADs. So, at one time max of 16 RPS. But, the real good feature that's added is that the RPS or patterns don't stop if you swith the PAD mode to something else.

Re: RPS vs. Rhythm Patterns
@shakil: you can also use multipart phrase(drum, bass, guitar etc.) as RHYTHM PTN. that makes no difference.
PTN allows only to play one phrase at the same time, RPS lets you play multiple phrases at the same time. in PTN all phrases react like LOOP 2 play mode in RPS.
in fan g a max. of 16 phrases can be advised to pads, and linked to max of 16 keys. in x series you have the possibility to advise 16 patterns to the pads and independent from that also pattern to each key.
in my eyes x series has a real RPS mode, in fan g we can talk about a enhanced RPS function.

Re: RPS vs. Rhythm Patterns
YES, both rps and rhythm can play ANY pattern on board. and with version 1.3 new button to switch between them on the fly gives us 32 pads to work from without having to give up any keyboard space.
i still wish there could be a pattern librarian.
