Unwanted remote play/stop with synch

Post by Astral »

I have Fantom as a Slave to Sonar for the tempo purposes. But I don't neet it to start playing every time I press play in Sonar. When I work with other instruments, Fantom begins playing song disregarding of what mode it is in- Live, Single or studio. Is there a way to keep it from remote play/stop responce but keep synch as slave? Thank you.

"Sync Mode
Specify the synchronization message that the Fantom-G’s sequencer
will use for operation.
Value
MASTER:
The Fantom-G will be the master. Choose this setting
when using the Fantom-G by itself without
synchronizing to another device, or when you want
other MIDI devices to synchronize to the Fantom-G.
SLAVE-MIDI:
The Fantom-G will be the slave. Choose this setting
when you want the Fantom-G to synchronize to
MIDI Clock messages received from another MIDI
device.
SLAVE-MTC:
The Fantom-G will be the slave. Choose this setting
when you want the Fantom-G to synchronize to
MTC (MIDI Time Code) received from an external
device.
REMOTE:
Use this setting when you wish an external MIDI
device to have remote start/pause/stop control. The
tempo will be in accord with what has been set on
the Fantom-G." (p.291 of the OM)

It seems, a Fantom-G should be in SLAVE-MIDI mode...

I really apriciate the reply, but... it IS in MIDI SLAVE mode- I stated it in my first post. The problem is- it starts song every time DAW begins playing I am not sure if I try empty song and what happens if I do that, but I would prefere to not have song started every time even when I am in Single or LIVE mode. Thats irritating when you have some other song playing every time while you working. I am looking for a setting that will keep Fantom Slave with Tempo, but will not respond to Start/Stop. Actually- I would look for the setting in Sonar, but in sonar it says "Transmit Start/Continue/Stop/Clock, which means no option to transmit Clock only with out Start/Stop command. My Yamaha Motif XS is also set to "SLAVE" and Sonds do not start unless I am in a song mode. In Voice (single) and Performance (live) mode songs stay off.

I have the same problem with pro-tools.

I hate this synth.... (it makes me scream and shout.... Why, Why cant it be cool? why does it have to suck so much? aaarghhhh. I want a Korg M3 instead. Better UI, better arp, firewire etc etc... come on Roland, are you serious??)

lordmoller: If you like the M3 better, you can sell the Fantom-G and buy the M3. Be my guest. You don't need to be so bloody negative. Even when we complain about missing features and the like (and I've been complaining a lot about many things), we do it more discretely.

I'll try to be more discrete. Sorry.

Could you please make your new flagship (I believe you called it the best workstation ever) cooler. Maybe you should try adding some of those basic features that every other workstation has had for more than a decade. That would be Nice.

I hope I'm not sounding too negative. Cause why be negative about spending a fortune on something and then finding out that you have to wait and hope for an upgrade to make it work properly.

Ps I can be as negative as i want and so can you. Why should I be discrete? Are you afraid that I will offend the nice people at Roland? maybe they'll stop making synths?
