I did a search and was mostly confused by what I found on here.
I simply want to know how to import and use pre-programmed drum patterns into my Fantom G. I'm embarassed to admit that I did not realize that the G had so few "canned" patterns available.
I do not want to have to create my patterns/grooves from scratch.
Please somebody help. One of the main reasons I want this is just so I can jam along with some repeating grooves.
How to import / use drum patterns?
Re: How to import / use drum patterns?
Have you tried downloading the FG connects project. That contains far more than what comes with the G as standard.
There is a sticky for it at the top of the forum threads.

Re: How to import / use drum patterns?
If you already have a midi drum machine you can hook it up to the Fantom G and record each pattern as a Phrase. Then give your phrase a good name and create Rhythm Sets that reference the phrases.
I've done this personally and it takes a while to get all the patterns recorded, but you only have to do it once.
Let me know if you have any technical questions about recording the MIDI from your drum machine into the Fantom G's phrases.

How to import / use drum patterns
Hi sdmsec,
I like the idea of recording the attached midi drum machine into a new phrase you mentioned.
Ever tried using one of the other Roland or Boss drum machines?
I have a Boss DR880 with some patterns I would like to bring into a pattern? Would this do the trick and can I then save the patterns for use in a Drum set that will allow me to bring up from say a Live set for Live use?
Thanks.

Re: How to import / use drum patterns?
I used an incorrect term in my post earlier. I've captured the patterns from my midi drum machine as Phrases (one Phrase for each drum machine pattern) and then arranged them into Rhythm Patterns in the Fantom G.
So I haven't created a new Rhythm SET - I've just recorded the patterns and created new Rhythm Patterns for use with the pads.
It was somewhat tedious. I had to sync up the midi controls properly between the Fantom and drum machine. Then, for each pattern, I had to choose an open Phrase, record the pattern, save the Phrase with a meaningful name, and repeat the process.
Still, I think it's worth the pain ONCE to be able to access some of my old patterns over and over again.
P.S. The biggest trick was getting in syncing the two machines and getting the phrase to record on MIDI channel 10.
