I started using my notebook and my FG with some VST Instruments for live gigs. I am using the Roland driver now and can't get a better result then 14 ms latency without pops and crackles. Anyone getting a better result?
The CPU indicator of Cubase however does not show more then 40% cpu load when you hear the pops and crackles.
I am using a Dell notebook TI-7100 1.8Ghz Core2Duo with IGhz Ram. RAM could be upgraded but will this result into a better latency? Anyone tried the asio4all driver with the FG?
I did setup my WinXP for music recording (things like background services and other settings)

Re: Pops and crackles...
what VST intruments are you using?
I use NI B4 II on a macbook with 4GB memory and I can put the latency as low as 8ms. I've set the buffersize as small as possible in the driver's settings, otherwise I still had to put it on 11ms.
I can't hear any difference in delay if the latency is under 10ms.
Just for your information when I load up NI Absynth4 I must use about 15ms otherwise it's just too heavy, so it really depends on the VST instrument.

Re: Pops and crackles...
I am using the VB3 demo from GSi.
(I know there sounds some pink noie every 4 secs because it's a demo. This is not what I mean with pops and crackles)
And also some VST's included in Cubase SX, but the VB3 is the mean one who brings the noise.
I''ll try more fidling with the settings.

Re: Pops and crackles...
if the volume on the note book is at the max then you will have cracks and pops had the same problem on 2.4ghz 4gb ram i mac, running cubase on a edirol ua ex 25 interface once i turned the volume down by one or two nocthes on the computer i was jaming full blast with no cracks and pops
Re: Pops and crackles...
Could a RAM update (from 1Gb to 4Gb) improve the latency?
Might this be a solution for a lower latency?

Re: Pops and crackles...
Windows can use up to 800Mb RAM easily (and more), then many laptops have 'shared memory' for the screen and then you have your DAW software taking up more memory + all your VST intruments and their samples... I am pretty sure you have ran out of RAM a long time ago.
updating the RAM from 1 to 4Gb is a good 30€ investment whatever the case.
I'm already looking forward to 16 cores and for 64Gb RAM!
