I can't find preset Drum Patterns and Samples (like that voices singing we had on the X).
Am I missing something, or we really don't have it on the G?

Re: Drum Patterns & Samples
Drum patterns are accessible via the pads when you activate the rhythm machine. As of preset samples, not sure why you'd need them (they are copyrighted) but you can access them from the factory demo project.
Re: Drum Patterns & Samples
Could we create an Open Source SMF library where users could post non-copyrighted SMF files for use on the Fantom G?
hmm hm.. I will open a new thread for discussion on that.

Re: Drum Patterns & Samples
This could be a good idea Jessej.
In the musics I'm producing I'm using Toontrack's EZDrummer to do the drum parts. Really good.
But I'd like to just have a rythm playing to inspire me while creating new songs. We had that in the X, without the need to import from external SMFs...

Re: Drum Patterns & Samples
I use drum midis as well, from EzDrummer, GrooveMonkee, BFD and others.
Up to now, there's just no convincing way to manage and use such drum patterns within the G OS. A workaround with special naming and long pattern lists buried in that one big phrase list is NO solution in my eyes. I am convinced that Roland will change this sooner or later, because the requests and questions concerning this missing functionality in an otherwise highly useable workstation like the G, just won't stop, I guess.
A possible solution was discussed here http://forums.rolandclan.info/?action=s ... d=8&page=1
P.S. While the G had drum Grooves, they were much too few and not well editable. I don't need 32 or 64, but rather several hundred drum grooves plus their variations at hand. This may sound huge, but in fact it isn't, as everyone searching for a well suited drum groove across various styles of music, fitting a certain idea or song, knows well.
Meanwhile I often play in a basic groove per hand into a G song track myself, to remember the kind of feel I'm after, and then continue with the basic song idea, before looking for a well done drummer midi (and it's variations) replacing my first manual take. It would be great to find it on the G instead of having to switch to a PC DAW for that...

Re: Drum Patterns & Samples
To hear EZDrummer demo, you have to go from drum set screen to "Open Grooves", then follow the Grooves into subfolders to their root directory, click a Groove and click the little arrow for hering the Groove demo. If you like one, you can drag and drop it to a drum track in Sonar (where you have EZDrummer as output).
For using the Grooves with your G:
Look into EZ's directory content: there should be folders in GM format. Use those grooves you like as midis which you can import to the G by playing them in
- Fantom G card
- project folder
- SEQ folder
- SMF folder
Then you can import them as smfs into your G drum tracks.
The G format is close to most drumsets on the G, but in some cases you still may have to transpose drum midi information...
For the rest read the manual(s)
