"Yen is strong, Euro is in it's 2-month low"

If this is true, then why does the price of the yamaha instruments stay the same. The prices of the Roland V-synth and the Fantom XR etc. stayed the same......

So it must be something else! Maybe it is a upcomig upgrade or update.... I don't know, I was hoping some of you guys did!

Well.. every time Roland comes out with a new ARX card and updates the Fantom G OS it's value does go up.

But if value and price correlates, I don't know! :D

How long has the V-Synths and XR been on the market and what kind of updates have they gotten? Can someone inform as I don't have either products?

I fear, this all is just wishful thinking! Such a price jump would be worth A BIG UPGRADE.

But I think it's just BIG GREED.

Ridiculous, in my opinion (especially being an unfinished product) - but it's a demand and supply equation - so as long as there's demand - Roland will keep hiking up prices :).

I didnt think it was worth the money at 2.5K (with incomplete features), so definitely don't think it's worth the increased price either.

It's about time some lean mean company comes around and gives this behemoth a run for their money!

I thought this was some sort of Euro thing when I first read this post so decided to check prices in UK I knew the prices of before.

I bought my G8 from imusician end of May last year for £2199 which was the cheapest to be found in the UK at the time. I have checked the price on and off since and at one point it did drop to £2099 with them and a few other sites.

They are all now at £2,719.99 with a RRP of £3199.

Crazy prices and no way I would have paid that.

Flumpster, you're right.

I bought a G8 in December for £2070 and now it's £2,720. A month ago I also bought a G7 for £1760 and now it's £2380

What's going on. That's about a 33% price increase.

I've also noticed that the ARX cards have gone up from approx £220 to £360

Hello Flumpster,

Your story proves that it has nothing to do with the euro and the yen, since the pound is getting stronger lately!

So it's a Roland decision! But Why?

I've asked Roland UK for info re why the prices have gone up so much, especially as I'm interested in ARX02 and ARX03 when it comes out. I'll let you know if I get an answer !

Wow! I'm shocked Roland would raise the price on such a buggy and incomplete product. I'm glad I got mine when I did, because there is no way I'd pay the inflated price for this instrument. Maybe they'll use the extra funds to hire more software developers and get the damn thing finished!

After hunting around on some other forums, it looks like the good old foreign exchange rate is likely to be the root cause of the price hikes. If I read some of the posts correctly, Roland UK will buy direct from Roland Japan, which makes sense. In July08 the fx rate was 210 Yen to the £1. As of today, it is about 135 Yen to the £1. So, let's say Roland Japan sold a FG8 for 420,000 Yen to Roland UK in July last year. This would have cost Roland UK approx. £2,000 to import. If Roland Japan sold a FG8 to Roland UK today, it would cost Roland UK approx £3,111.

So, if this is what's happening, we can see where the price increases are coming from. If I get a formal answer back from Roland UK I'll let everyone know.

By the way, do you think if the fx rate had gone the other way Roland UK would have passed the price benefit on to consumers ? :-)
