Please Help - How to store controllers for external gear

Post by Anton »

I'm controlling the VB3 (Hammond VST plug-in) in Live mode.
I programmed the volume controllers as drawbars (CC 12 - CC20), Switch SW1 for the Leslie speed slow/fast (CC01) and Switch SW2 for Overdrive on/off (CC67). I saved this in an empty Live Set. I removed all the internal sounds, just using external channel 1. It works great but when I change to another Live set and go back to my VB3 live set, the controllers don't work anymore.

After recalling my VB3 Live set I have to put the cursor on the ch 1 again, pressing F4 Control and then it works again. Can this be done another way? I just want to recall my Live set and take control immediatly. Any idea?

I tried everything. It's not possible. Would be great to improve for an update. It wil give the FG more (external)power!

Am I really the only one who tried this?

Personaly have no problems with this..

Thing to check is that in system..
your controlers etc.. are not set to screen or Temp when you save the live set..

the other solution is to save your set with WRITE SONG.
You can load it again when needed

(remember to do this before you save your live set so you can recall it later should all else fail)

Thank you Quinnx! I didn't noticed that system parameters. I figured out what the parametes means (yes, the manual....)
In the system Menu I have now changed the Knob and Sliders assign select on FIX and the Knob and Slider asign Source on Temp. This way the assign source is asigned by the Live Set and not by the Sytem. Now I have this nearly working for my Live Set to control my B3 VSTi plug-in.

The only problem left is this:
I have muted all the internal parts (KBD off), only the external part ch1 is controlled by the keyboard. That's where thing go wrong. When I recall my Live Set, I have to put the cursor on that ch1 again with the mouse. Then everyhing works fine again. Is there a solution for this too?

Great to have results and no excuses!!

Yes I did that and I switched all the other (internal) parts off.
So the only channel/part left is the external ch.1.

Strange, then it should work for me too. I'll explain a bit more what's going on: I'm using my FG to control the VB3 VSTi. I'm using it in Cubase at the moment and like to use it in a stand-alone situation on stage with a VSTi wrapper.

After starting with a Live set initialize and setting up the controllers as described before the controls works fine. The only problem is that after recalling the Live set after using others Live sets, the controls are not 'connected' at once after selecteing this Live set. I have to select the ch.1 with the cursor to make it work again.
All the cc parameters programmed are recalled right. It just doesn't work immediatly after recalling the live set.
I don't use program changes or the MSB and LSB code, but this seems not to be improtant. It didn't solve the problem when I used it to recall a certain memory on the VB3 VSTi.
I'm just using it for live control for the drawbars. Maybe I give it a try with the Native Instruments B4, however I think it must be me or the FG and not the software.

Quinnx can you tell me what you control external? You do also use the faders?

I found that the midi signal indicator in Cubase only reponds on the S1 and S2 switches and the four rotary knobs above the faders. It didn't recognize moving the 8 volume faders. I checked if there was some midi input filtering selected in Cubase and this was not the case. Strange... my faders works fine on other (internal) parts.

I also have tried it with Steinberg V-stack and VB3. Same problem. I have done a factory reset on my FG. Didn't do it...
I'm sure it must be a Fantom G problem and not in the VB3 software. Maybe something for an update?

From what i can see
any external control with the 8 sliders will only send when you are actually on the EXTERNAL MIXER.

Quinnx you are right. It's the only way to make it work.
I can switch Live sets with F5 (Live set list) and stay in the Live Mixer to control the drawbars. It's a workaround I can use.

Thanks for the help and I hope it will be possible to do in Live Play soon, maybe after the next update ;)
