Routing the Fantom G Editor
Routing the Fantom G Editor
Is it possible to route the sound going into the fantom g editor mixer to a DAW audio track or bus? I use Logic and want to send the individual sounds coming for the Fantom G into individual audio tracks in Logic. Is this possible?

I think you have misunderstood something as there is no sound coming or going from the VST editor. It's all just MIDI control command data.
The only audio that is transmitted comes trough the USB I/O. That is one stereo signal.

Yeah...I'm trying to grasp this USB audio concept....Is there a way to have 16 channels of audio going from the Fantom G into Logic on separate tracks via usb audio? Or is USB audio something that can't be manipulated or routed into separate signals?

No, not simultaneously.
That would be 16 stereo channels = 32 channels. The Fantom G offers only one stereo pair in and out. (Out of the 'competition' the Access Virus Ti offers 2 stereo or 4 mono channels.)
It would be awesome if it would be possible to get all 16 channels as stereo signals to Logic, I totallly agree to that. We have to see what the upcoming USB 3.0 standard will bring to us with new speeds and future workstations.
You have to either record each track from the G to Logic one by one (sync) or 'render' each track as wav within the G and then Import the tracks to Logic. Or as 'stems' like I do now to avoid too much hassle.

thanks a lot Jessej! Hopefully USB 3.0 would make that possible...Would save me a ton of time....
Re: Routing the Fantom G Editor
I'm hoping the next Fantom G update will include a smart export feature that automatically solos each track and renders them as wave and saves the rendered files to the USB stick for DAW mixdown. That would also save us tons of time.

Re: Routing the Fantom G Editor
i dont understand these music embedded software programmers.
they know that the world of studio recording has moved on to computer editing and processing.
so why dont they put mixdown as one of there first priority,
exporting 2 tracks via MTC should be a thing of the past which take up so much time.
for the price of this keyboard. it should be able to solo each track and have the feature to disable or enable effects. them mix down a 16 track session to individual wav. package for easy export to a computer.
or even had a firwire expansion ad on card that could send at lease 16 track to PC daw. eg tascam dm3200 mixer. for faster transporting of tracks.
do they expect me to lay my vocals in the fantom mix in the fantom master in the fantom,?
this is one feature i have search for in a keyboard workstation and i cant seem to find it. i was hoping that this new fantom had it.
so now i have to look else where or even wait 10 more years before
any one knows a good keyboard workstation that does this ?

Welcome to the forum tattootroy!
I absolutely agree with you.
Mixdown in DAW is probably what most of the Fantom G users will do and I have also great difficulties in understanding the Roland logic here...

Fantom-G has different philosophy.. Fantom-G is BLUE OCEAN. It's unique...

Are you calling the unfinished OS a philosophy?

jessej : actualy,... no
of course, OS need more updates, this is true.. , but FG is realy different gear as other workstations..
my opinion is that people want features which are out of philosophy for Fantom G.. that is all

Ok, In my opinion, most of the lacking features that have been discussed on this forum are very sane, including the fact that Roland should do something about the MISSING solo function and make exporting files better.
The only philosophy that I have been noticing is that Roland is extremely slow with releasing fixes to problems.

Re: Routing the Fantom G Editor
IMO a simple ADAT connection would have sufficed. I had it on my Kurzweil K2661 and it made tracking a lot faster. I actually thought USB Audio was similar to ADAT...that's kinda why I started this thread....
Re: Routing the Fantom G Editor
very true needlz.. ADAT would have been very nice.
