Faster/default way to create a multi-sample?

Post by Needlz »

Let's say I've chopped up a sample...or have a set of .wav files I want to make a patch of....Is it possible to have the samples automatically laid out on the keyboard..like as some sort of default? It just seems sort of tedious to have to manually assign each sample to a key on the Fantom...sometimes I chop my samples into 30 chops...

I'm coming from the software world where I use Recycle to chop my samples and then use Phatmatik Pro, Kontakt 3, or Battery to play them back. Once I import the rex files into one of these programs they are automatically laid out on the keys usually starting at C3 as a default. Is there a way for the Fantom to do something like this? Can I make my own default patch that tells the samples to start at C and go up chromatically? Please Respond!

Great question, but I don't think the G can do this (at least I haven't seen it in any menu).

On Fantom-X, you can select multiple samples in sample list, and then select "create rythm patch" function. It will automatically creates a new drum kit and assign the selected samples to the keys in sequence. I don't know if Fantom-G will let you the same...

Honestly... when I saw Dans video on Multi sampling..I decided (For GOOD) not to get the Fantom (no offense Dan) The way it was showed is so ridiculous (not Dans fault)... Me being a "Sampler addict" the workflow is a Creativity Killer. NEEDLZ... i would recommend the MV-8800 for any person that samples. The way the MV handles samples is Far superior to ALL hardware thats out currently. The Clipboard button adds a dimension to it that is incredible. Roland won with the MV. If the Fantom handled sampling better it would absolutely be in my arsenal.

Yeah, that's a major turn off. I may stick with the software untill they release an update. I couldn't imagine doing what Dan was doing in the video over and over....

Yes ditto. I've done 3 multi-sample patches on the Fantom G.. the way the creation process is handled now.. no thanks.

Some time ago I finished making of 60 multisamples for a new library, and it didn't take too much time. If all samples are to be laid out in a standard fashion, you can quickly reassign them to one template multisample map. It took around an hour of work, so one minute per multi. That's nothing for me, although I do admit that the automatic multisample creation should be there like in the X series.

Be aware that automatic multisample creation on X doesn't really work fine.It works fine if you plan to use 4-5 samples to spread all over the keyboard, but not when you use for example 17 samples ,that you want them to be assigned on the multisample ,exactly at the root key order they have.Again, you will have to make them manually. The good thing is that it is easy to fix that.

Artemiy, was your process way different from Dan's video? Like did you have to assign the sample to each key, pick the root note etc.....Can you explain your work flow? A part of me wants to still get this keyboard because 70% of the time I sample like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql4hqYmxtz8 @ 00:58 secs

and then worst case scnario I can just do this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj-G7cQ9 ... re=related @ 1:33 secs

even though i'd prefer to have the sample laid out on keys..I'll just have to make sure I only do 16 chops for now...

One other small feature I was hoping the G had was the ability to play samples from the beginning to the end and then loop from the end back to the beginning. My Kurzweil as well as Phatmatik Pro and a few other hardware samplers had this. It super helpful to stretch a sample slighty very fast...I know then G has something similar but I'm not sure how effective it is...
