Just got the G6. Got a question.

Post by SoulLife »

I got the G6 for its mobility and power, since I go back and forth between home and apartment pretty frequently. I had sold my x7 about a year ago and recently purchased the G6. My bro recently got his x8, and that thing is way too heavy to move around or else I would have gotten the G8.

Do you guys think it practical to get a 88 weighted Midi keyboard somewhere down the line to hook up to the G6 in the studio (you know, for those crazy piano solos)?

I love the compactness of the G6, but 61 keys sometimes gets a bit irritating. But the whole point of purchasing a 61 key workstation is for that "on-the-go project". When far away from the comfort of your home studio, the Fantom G would be the next best thing.

I would have gotten the G7 too, but upon looking up the dimensions, it won't fit in my car.

Hi SoulLife,

For my 2 cents..

Well that's the rub right there...its what's practical ...I too have the G6 mainly for the reasons of size (fitting in car with the case) and using in a fairly small room at home and for weight in taking it to studios/out to friends houses, etc...the G8 is just far too heavy to lug around, even if it does have lovely weighted keys ....and once I had turned down the G8 I couldn't justify after that spending nearly £300 for the extra few keys on the G7 (so have bought Omnisphere instead..which IS worth every penny!!)

But I have use of a Roland electric weighted piano that I can midi into the G6 ...for those odd moments of insanity ...haha.....but for 95%+ of the time the G6 does the job very well...and is very practical.

Cheers, Stu

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as ecstatic as anyone here who first got their FGs.

Heh, it's just that when you put down that much money for a gear... you stop making music and start thinking alittle too much.

Coming in as a former x7 user, and glancing over the specs and features the G has to offer, the G has alot of potential. There's a couple of things that are a headscratcher, but I am optimistic those will be ironed out.

Seeing that my x7 stayed in the studio most of the time, I opted for a G6 for many obvious reasons. You DO miss the extra keys though.

I think the key concepts behind the Gs are versatility and practicality. The potential is there, I just hope this doesn't turn out to be "windows vista", where bad rep ruined everything.

I wish I could get a couple of comments and experiences (frustrations, benefits, etc) from piano players with the g6.

How is the 61 keys holding up?

I think I read somewhere where someone recommended pedals for fast octave switching.

Personally, I've been messing around for the last couple of days with the piano patches... and I guess it's working alright.

What are your thoughts between the tradeoff of mobility- convenience for longer length-extra keys?
